Roughneck keeps crews safe

US Oil Tools’ RoughNeck family is a rugged and safe device used to make and break connections on the drillfloor without the use of manual tongs and crews. It is designed for remote operation from the drillers console or a dedicated on-board control box via an umbilical, which keeps crews safe from the drillstring and related tool injury. But it is also small enough to be manually operated.

The M2 RoughNeck delivers make-up torque of 1,200 ft/lb – 76,000 ft/lb and break-out torque of up to 105,000 ft/lb.

The M2 system delivers make-up torque of 1,200 – 76,000 ft/lb and break-out torque of up to 105,000 ft/lb with a power supply delivering 3,000 psi at 25 – 32 gpm. The catch range covers pipe connections from 3-1/4 in. to 8-3/4 in. in diameter and connections can be completed in less than 20 seconds. The system offers carriage, boom, or cantilever positioning options, depending on rig floor needs, and has a 30° operational movement. The footprint is 41-in. wide by 20-in. deep with a weight close to 3,000 lb. The standard system includes operation controls and gauges.

The 100% hydraulic system offers many benefits. It is one of the smallest and lightest full-range connection devices on the market with remote hands-free operation that keeps crews safe and alert. The quick-set jaws offer easy die replacement with standard Type-B tong dies. The system’s limited wear areas keep forward costs low and maintenance time to a minimum.

Options include two styles of hydraulically operated fixed positioners, a universal adapter for other spinners and attachments and a removable operations control panel. US Oil Tools roller type spinners are also available. WO
