Single-arm davit, accommodation containers improve offshore safety and living

This single- armed davit system is available in models handling 1,500 kg to 3,500 kg, SWL.

Norwegian firm EIDE Marine Tech AS has developed two innovations that are simple in concept, yet they can do much to improve offshore safety and living conditions. These items are a single-armed davit for launching rescue boats and workboats, and accommodation containers for use on FPSOs, drilling rigs and other large offshore vessels.

Over the years, the company has considered itself a pioneer in hydraulically operated davit launching systems. The new single-armed design reportedly is a first for offshore usage. It comes in three versions –1,500 kg; 2,500 kg; and 3,500 kg, SWL (safe working load). Additional models to handle larger working loads are slated for development.

As noted by the manufacturer, this davit system is easy to install, operate and maintain. Installation involves a simple hook-up to electrical power, with a power pack in the column able to handle connection to 220-V or 440-V supply.

The winch is hydraulically operated with hydraulic holding and lowering brake, and there is a speed adjustment available. Hydraulic energy is supplied from one power unit on the davit’s base. This system is designed for long-term operation in tough, corrosive marine environments. It is composed of licensed materials, sandblasted and based with zinc barrier primer.

As regards the accommodation containers, their concept is very flexible. They can be built into desired modules for bedroom, office, canteen, living room, locker room, laundry room, sanitary room, or various combinations of the aforementioned living spaces. These containers are classified as, and can be delivered in, Class A15 to Class A60.

Accommodation containers can be built in various living and working configurations for use on FPSOs, drilling rigs and other offshore vessels.

Five of these accommodation containers, plus a diesel generator set and related equipment, were built and supplied for the FPSO Aminan offshore West Africa. Considered a price-competitive solution to more traditional accommodations, these containers can be built to a client’s own specifications and can be delivered anywhere in the world. Their containerized construction speeds loading and unloading from cargo ships while docked.  WO
