Apache Corp. promoted James L. House to general manager and managing director of Khalda Petroleum Corp. David R. Gilbronson was appointed managing director, Poland, replacing House. Other appointments at Khalda include: David M. Talbott, operations general manager (oil); Warren E. Ford, operations general manager (gas); C. Brian Boutte, deputy exploration general manager and John C. Youle, deputy development general manager.

Cudd Pressure Control named Issam (Sam) Sharara as managing director of international affairs.

BJ Services appointed Kevin deVerteuil country manager for Nigeria with the well services-Europe / Africa division.

Phillip A. Gobe joined Nuevo Energy as COO, responsible for managing worldwide exploitation and exploration operations and business development.

Newly elected officers of the Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists (SIPES) include Deborah K. Sacrey, independent geologist and geophysicist, president; Marion E. Spitler, VP; Robert C. Leibrock, VP natural resources; Peter G. Gray, secretary and James A. Savage, treasurer.

ABB Vetco Gray appointed Mark T. Thatcher president and CEO. Nelson Narciso was appointed ABB Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals’ Angola Regional manager, based in Luanda.

Baker Hughes named James Roderick (Rod) Clark president of Baker Petrolite.

Hans P. deBoer was appointed managing director of IRO.

Mike Black was appointed general manager of the newly-opened Houston office of DeGolyer & McNaughton.

Horizon Offshore Contractors appointed George G. Reuter as sales and marketing VP. Eric T. Stagg became international operations VP.

Reed-Hycalog’s Ray Peterson received the Contractor of the Year Award from the International Association of Drilling Contractors for his outstanding lifetime achievements.

Aspen Group Resources Corp. Chairman and CEO Jack Wheeler was appointed to the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Business Advisory Council and named as a member of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission’s Legal and Regulatory Affairs Committee. The Business Advisory Council is composed of business leaders from each state, and is charged with the responsibility of advising the Republican leadership on issues affecting small business. IOGCC represents the governors of 30 oil and gas producing states in the U.S. It promotes conservation and efficient recovery of U.S. petroleum resources, while protecting health, safety and the environment.

Alan L. Smith was appointed VP, business development for Ocean Energy.

Al Ronney will manage the new Integrated Production Services project and engineering division, based in Calgary.

Stéphane Labonté was named managing director of NuTec Sciences, Inc.’s new office in Europe.

International Association of Geophysical Contractors named Doug Elrod, IndigoPool.com, a Schlumberger company, chairman. Shawn Rice, manager QHSE for WesternGeco, is new vice chairman and chairman-elect. Charles F. Darden is full-time president, Michael W. (Mike) Covil is VP.

DeMarco Energy named John Adams as VP of sales and marketing.

Deaths

Former TIPRO president Bruce Anderson passed away on Friday, February 9. Serving as president from 1983 to 1985, he was a most trusted leader and adviser and was honored with the "Mr. TIPRO" award.

He was a third-generation oilman, and the founder and chairman of Anderson Oil. He spent eight years in Casper, Wyoming and seven years in Denver, Colorado before moving to Houston. WO
