TECHNOLOGY AT WORK

New techniques improve field surface / downhole operations

Two recently introduced tools, a cementing product innovation, an improved drill cuttings treatment and reviews of three companies’ optimized operations give important and practical information that can increase success and productivity of field operating programs and well completions / workovers.

The products, systems and field practices described here include:

  1. North Sea application of a premixed cement slurry that cuts onsite equipment needs;
  2. improved in situ sand screen expansion with a compliant rotary tool;
  3. use of a thermal desorption system to treat oil-based-mud cuttings in Colombia,
  4. a new tool to detect the end of coiled tubing when it is pulled through the wellhead; and
  5. how three California independents are optimizing mature-field operations / productivity.
