Senergy and Apache announce technology transfer agreement

LONDON -- Two energy industry companies have announced a partnership to provide the oil and gas industry with previously proprietary geosteering and other software that can improve the evaluation and productivity of unconventional resource developments.

Senergy, which provides fully-integrated project and asset development services across the energy industry, will receive patented and unique geosteering software designed by Apache as part of a Cooperative Software Development Agreement, and the technology will be used within Senergy’s Interactive Petrophysics and Oilfield Data Manager (ODM) software suites.

The new technology package consists of PetroSleek, a patented and innovative tool for geosteering, together with several other unique modules which perform a variety of calculations to enhance the evaluation of subsurface formation data. Additional tools in the package include a complete unconventional resources workflow, a fluid properties tool and a salinity calculation tool.
John Fraser, Senergy’s Vice President of Software, commented:

“Senergy is delighted to have reached agreement with Apache, one of our leading customers, to commercialize PetroSleek and offer it to the wider market. With the large number of high angle and horizontal wells now being drilled globally it has become essential to be able to position a well correctly in a target subsurface formation to maximize the productivity and therefore the value of the well.  PetroSleek enables geologists and drillers to visualize the well position in real time so they can make the necessary adjustments to steer the well to the correct target. Apache has been very supportive of our technology and this agreement enables us to bring new technology, which other customers have been requesting also, to the market more quickly than we could otherwise have done.”

ODM is an integration and interpretation software program designed to store, manage, and interpret geological well data. ODM enables the geoscientist to quickly and easily incorporate and visualize numerous forms of data with the objective of using all available information to make an informed interpretation of the sub-surface geology.
