Tobin International, Inc. , has merged with P2 Energy Solutions, creating the oil and gas sector's largest provider of enterprise software and services, mapping data and storage systems. Tobin is now a wholly owned subsidiary of P2ES, which has about 500 employees located in Houston, San Antonio, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver and Calgary. The company develops and supports technology solutions and data for the energy industry, offering products that integrate with leading providers of enterprise solutions and relational databases.

Norsk Hydro and the German gas transportation and supply company WINGAS GmbH set up a joint venture for the marketing and sales of natural gas in the UK. The 50/50 joint venture company is called HydroWingas Ltd. Subject to approval from the EU Competition Authority, it will start marketing and sales activities in the spring of 2004. It will be based in Twickenham outside London, and will sell natural gas directly to industrial customers and redistributors.

BJ Process and Pipeline Services opened a new base of operations in Houston, serving Houston, the southern USA, Mexico and South America. The 26,000-sq-ft facility features a custom workshop and a larger warehouse in which a suite of specialist process and pipeline equipment is maintained.

 

Fig 1International Mooring Systems (IMS) and ChainCo, both divisions of The Craig Group, commissioned a new mobile inspection unit for ChainCo. Built by Weatherford in Aberdeen, the new unit, more compact, transportable and incorporating improved hydraulic and safety systems, was shipped to Keppel Verolme dry-dock in Holland to inspect 50,000 ft of chain on the Stena Dee semi-submersible rig for Stena Drilling. The Craig Group also purchased a mobile inspection unit in the Gulf of Mexico, bringing the ChainCo fleet of purpose-built, mobile inspection units to six.

 

Sondex, a British oilfield technology company, acquired Computer Sonics Systems Inc. (CSS), a designer and manufacturer of wireline logging equipment based in Calgary, Canada. It has also gained the approval of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) for the use of its Sondex magnetic thickness tool for casing inspection logs in oil and gas wells. The acquisition of CSS adds a complementary product line to Sondex's portfolio of downhole tools. EUB's approval of the tool follows a series of field trials.

Tenaris, a supplier of tubular goods and services to the oil and gas industry worldwide, and Tianjin Pipe Corp., a supplier of seamless OCTG casing in China, signed a memorandum of cooperation to establish two joint ventures to build a pipe threading facility and a plant manufacturing accessories for oil extraction and production. Both joint ventures would be located in the Tianjin Free Trade Zone and have Tenaris as the majority owner.

CRC-Evans Automatic Welding will supply up to 10 spreads of equipment for three new onshore pipelines linking a production platform and LNG terminal at the Sakhalin II oil and gas development in Russia. Sakhalin II represents the largest single foreign direct investment project currently under way in Russia. It is the first production-sharing agreement to be signed in the country, and the first to go into operation following the start of Phase I oil production. CRC-Evans will provide up to six spreads of automatic-welding equipment for about 395 mi of 24-in. oil pipeline and 107 mi of 20-in. gas pipeline, and will also provide up to four spreads of automatic-welding equipment and related support for 395 mi of 48-in. gas pipeline. These will link the Molikpaq platform to the LNG terminal near Korsakov.

Rice Engineering, Odessa, Texas-based oilfield corrosion specialist, has changed its name to Duoline Technologies, L.P. The name change reflects the name recognition for the company's principal product line, DUOLINE. All manufacturing and distribution will remain unchanged and associated brand names will be unaffected.

BJ Services' Well Services Division-Europe & Africa region has completed a multi-million-dollar acid stimulation for BG Tunisia Ltd, a division of the BG Group. Services were performed from the MV Vestfonn, an offshore stimulation vessel, on three wells located in BG's Miskar field offshore Tunisia. The Abiod Chalk formation posed unique challenges. The 75-m-thick net section of the gas-bearing reservoir formation is a 320°F limestone consisting mainly of hard, brittle, chalky wackestone. The chalk was pad acid fraced at about 60 bpm and 6,500 psi surface treating pressure.

Enterra Energy Trust signed a purchase and sale agreement for the acquisition of several properties in East Central Alberta for US$15 million (C$20 million). These properties currently produce about 1,800 boe/day, consisting of 1,600 bpd of oil and 1,200 Mcfd of natural gas, along with about 22,166 acres of undeveloped land.

Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Corp. will acquire a 70% working interest in eight leases totaling 12,000 acres off the Alaska coast, northwest of Prudhoe Bay, from Armstrong Alaska, Inc. Kerr-McGee will operate the leases and expects to spud at least one exploratory well during the first quarter. Armstrong holds the remaining 30% interest. The agreement includes the right to acquire interest in 13 additional leases in the area, totaling 54,000 acres. In addition, Kerr-McGee do Brasil Ltda. will acquire 331/3% working interest in the BM-C-7 block in the Campos basin from EnCanBrasil Ltda., subject to government approvals.
