Formation Evaluation for a Sustainable Future

May 10, 2024
Sponsored by: AspenTech
Formation evaluation plays an essential role in helping decision makers locate and evaluate suitable geological formations for sustainable resource utilization, as well as predict and mitigate potential environmental impacts. Techniques such as seismic imaging and well logging can be repurposed to assess subsurface conditions for sustainability projects like geothermal energy and CCS. Understanding subsurface geology and fluid dynamics is crucial for the development and operation of these projects, to expand renewable energy sources and store captured CO2. By providing accurate data about subsurface conditions, formation evaluation enables informed decision-making regarding natural resource utilization, promoting sustainability and responsible stewardship of resources.

How Liquid Coatings Curb Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) in LNG Service

March 04, 2024
Sponsored by: Sherwin Williams
The hidden dangers of corrosion under insulation (CUI) and chloride stress corrosion cracking (CSCC) are especially prevalent on assets used in the production of liquified natural gas. However, newer liquid coatings offer facilities the opportunity to mitigate corrosion far longer than previous options, helping owners extend coating maintenance schedules, reduce operational costs and enhance safety. Learn more about these advanced CUI-mitigation solutions in this informative paper.

How Additive Manufacturing Can Aid the Oil, Gas, and Chemical Industry: Corrosion-Proofing by Infusion of Interstitial Solute, Exemplified for Alloy 22

October 18, 2023
Sponsored by: Swagelok
AM (additive manufacturing) is a rapidly developing field for rapid prototyping and producing near-net-shape products that are impossible to produce by conventional methods. In this article, we prove the concept of corrosion proofing of AM alloy parts by low-temperature infusion of interstitial solute for the example of Alloy 22 parts made by LPBF (laser powder-bed fusion). For post-processing of these parts, we employed our newly developed process of LTNC-SRP (low-temperature nitrocarburization by solid-reagent pyrolysis). The results highlight how this new process can specifically address problems inherent to alloy parts made by AM.
