June 21, 2018

ST. JOHN'S -- The Newfoundland and Labrador Oil & Gas Industries Association (Noia) 34th annual oil & gas conference was held this week at the St. John’s Convention Centre. Themed Redefining Oil: The Time is Now, the conference heard from a variety of speakers with the themes of regulatory clarity and investment support. A discussion on innovation and collaboration by a panel of industry experts also was held, along with a business-to-business matchmaking session.

“Minister Siobhan Coady informed delegates that the provincial government will continue to request clarity from the Government of Canada on Bill C-69. The panel discussion on innovation and collaboration was informative, and the keynote address by Deborah Yedlin was engaging. Ms. Yedlin concluded her remarks by enforcing the need for innovation and by stating the world needs Canada’s oil,” said Charlene Johnosn, Noia CEO.

On Thursday morning, Noia CEO Charlene Johnson launched Imagine the Potential, an industry awareness campaign. Technology in the industry also was discussed, along with a keynote luncheon address by John Risley, director with Horizon Maritime Services. “A recent survey of residents shows high support for the industry, though, its potential to transform our province is not really understood. I look forward to sharing exciting information to demonstrate what the future may hold and to launch our campaign, which encourages everyone to Imagine the Potential of the Newfoundland and Labrador oil and gas industry,” he said prior to the presentation.
