Retooling for the upturn

With rig contract cancellations, fleet retirements, and large-scale cost-cutting slicing through the offshore drilling market, new technology assumes an even more important role in safety, efficiency, capability and—ultimately—marketability. As utilization drops, advantage is often found in innovation—if not now, then certainly in the upturn that will arrive eventually.

Limit water cut and gas breakthrough with autonomous inflow control

Autonomous ICDs are self-regulating and classed as being active. Unlike its passive counterpart, which produces greater choking for higher-density fluids, an AICD chokes water and gas more readily. This prevents the well from being flooded when unwanted fluids break through. This article describes the capabilities of the AICD and presents a workflow to design a field-specific AICD.

Managing simultaneous operations during seismic acquisition in offshore fields

A new collaborative SIMOPS management system promises to optimize the planning and execution of seismic and other critical operations, even under rapidly changing offshore conditions.
