Marathon Oil Corporation announced that Janet F. Clark, executive V.P. and CFO, retired on Oct. 1, after serving almost 10 years as the company’s CFO. The board of directors has elected John R. “J. R.” Sult to succeed Clark as executive V.P. and CFO. Clark served as executive V.P., assisting in transition-related matters during the month of September. Sult was a member of El Paso Corporation’s executive management team from 2005, until the company was acquired by Kinder Morgan in 2012.


Chevron has named Joe M. Naylor corporate V.P. of Strategic Planning. Naylor succeeds Charles (Chuck) A. Taylor, who was previously appointed managing director for the company’s IndoAsia Business Unit in the international upstream business segment. Naylor was previously general manager, Upstream Strategy and Planning.


Variable Bore Rams has named Cameron McCreary as sales account manager. Based in San Antonio, Texas, McCreary will be responsible for expanding sales and revenue in the West and South Texas regions. Previously, he held two positions at Drilformance, as a city sales representative and a field sales representative.


Guardian has announced the appointment of Patrick Keenan as the company’s new CEO. Keenan was most recently CEO of FRAM Exploration, a start-up Norwegian oil and gas E&P company, with oil producing assets in North Dakota and Colorado in the U.S., and onshore Trinidad.


BP has appointed Geoff Morrell as senior V.P. of the newly formed U.S. Communications & External Affairs organization. Communications & External Affairs is a consolidation of three previously existing teams within the company: U.S. Communications, which Morrell previously led, as well as Government and Public Affairs, and Federal and International Affairs. In this new role, Morrell will be responsible for oversight of all of the company’s internal and external stakeholder engagement in the U.S., including outreach to employees, media and government officials. He will also oversee BP America’s community affairs, charitable and political giving programs.


Recovery Energy, an independent oil and gas E&P company, has appointed Avi Mirman as president. Additionally, A. Bradley Gabbard was appointed COO, and will also maintain his position as CFO. Mirman brings more than 20 years of experience in the securities industry to Recovery Energy.


Wireless Seismic has promoted Scott Williams to V.P. of global sales, and John Flavell Smith to V.P. of global marketing. Previously, Williams served as Wireless Seismic’s director of business development.  He has more than 35 years of experience in the seismic industry. Previously, Smith served as the company’s director of international business development.  He has more than 35 years of experience, and was co-founder and COO of Greenrock Energy, a renewable energy services firm.


Petrobras president Maria das Graças Silva Foster has been voted best CEO, Latin America, in the oil, gas and petrochemical sector, according to Institutional Investor magazine’s 2013 ranking. Graças Foster was chosen by both sell-side (brokers) and buy-side (investors) analysts. To prepare the 2013 ranking, the magazine listened to buy-side analysts, portfolio managers and sell-side analysts, who cover Latin America. Interviewees could vote for up to four CEOs, CFOs and investor relations professionals from different sectors.


GulfMark Offshore has elected Steven W. Kohlhagen and Charles K. Valutas to its board of directors for terms expiring in June 2014. Kohlhagen is a retired financial executive who brings to the board expertise in financial accounting, finance and risk management through his extensive experience in, and knowledge of, the financial, securities and foreign exchange markets. Valutas has more than 30 years of experience in the energy business. From 1979 to 2008, Valutas held various positions with Sunoco, including sales and product manager, V.P. and general manager, and, recently, retiring as senior V.P. and chief administrative officer.


Lankhorst Ropes has appointed Neil Schulz as sales director for deepwater mooring. Schulz was formerly sales and technology manager with Parker Scanrope. He has more than 18 years of commercial and technical experience in fiber rope and wire rope technology, sales and marketing. IHS Inc. Executive Chairman Jerre Stead has been named by Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper to serve as chief recovery officer, leading the state’s efforts in recovering from the recent floods that devastated communities in 17 counties. In this role, Stead will work closely with the Colorado Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and local partners to help lead the state’s response in repairing damage from the floods that have affected thousands of people in communities along the Front Range and on the Eastern Plains of Colorado.

Pulse Structural Monitoring, an Acteon company, has appointed two new business development managers for its Houston office. The company has appointed Paul Chittenden as the business development manager for production riser and pipeline systems. Chittenden joins Pulse from GE Oil & Gas. Joseph Bramande joins Pulse as the business development manager for marine systems. He joins the company after five years with ExxonMobil.


Rice University has chosen former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Energy Charles McConnell to lead the university’s Energy and Environment Initiative (e2i) in its mission to partner with the energy industry, to develop sustainable technologies and practices. McConnell is a 35-year industry veteran, who left DOE in February, after two years as the assistant secretary responsible for fossil fuels.


Mark A. Stansberry, author of the book, America Needs America’s Energy:  Creating Together the People’s Energy Plan, was a finalist this summer in the Foreword Reviews Book of the Year Award at the American Library Association’s Annual Conference in Chicago, under the category of political science. Stansberry was a winner in two categories, current events and political science, for the National Indie Excellence Book Awards, and was a Bronze Medallion Global Ebook Award winner under the category of political science. Stansberry has been involved in the oil and gas industry for the past 36 years.  He is chairman of The GTD Group, which manages oil and gas properties in six states.  He has authored three energy-related books, and has a fourth book coming out this fall. He also hosts a radio show, now in its fourth year, on KFAQ AM1170, Tulsa, and has a weekly newspaper column and blog.


Tullow Oil has appointed Jeremy Wilson as a non-executive director, with effect from Oct. 21. Wilson brings extensive strategic and corporate finance experience to Tullow, following a successful career at JPMorgan, where he joined as a graduate and is currently vice chairman of their Energy Group. During his time at the bank, Wilson has held a variety of senior positions, including co-head of European mergers & acquisitions, and global co-head of Natural Resources and Diversified Industrials. Wilson is also a non-executive director of John Wood Group.
