Alcoa Oil & Gas has successfully deployed 5,905 ft of Aluminum Alloy Drill Pipe (AADP) in Iron Duke Well C offshore Seria, Brunei. Alcoa partnered on the project with Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) Co. Sdn. Bhd., Brunei’s largest oil and gas producer, and AMRTUR Corp., Alcoa’s service partner. The well is considered among the most complex and deviated in the BSP system, with three “S” curves and a long horizontal section about 15,840 ft long. It was successfully drilled to a total depth of about 24,288 ft, in 197 ft of water.


JSC Mezhregiontruboprovodstroy (MRTS), the main contractor for the Kirinskoye gas condensate field development in the Sea of Okhotsk, Russia, has completed a successful installation of 10-in. PLET and in-line tee (ILT) on the seabed from its newest specialized vessel, PLB Fortuna. The installation procedures and all related analysis for this, as well as other tasks, have been provided by the UK branch of independent subsea engineering consultancy DeepSea, which has also supplied engineering support personnel on the vessel during the 2011 campaign.


John Mobley announced that he has assembled a team of hardbanding experts to assist end-users in choosing the right hardbanding for their drillstrings. Oilpatch Hardbanding Consultancy will also assist hardbanding applicator companies in the training and development of their unit operators.


Integrated Drilling Equipment Company has acquired S&P Drives Automation Controls, which will now be known as International Electric Company (IEC) Automation and Controls. Founded in 2008 by Charles Piper and Matt Shaw, S&P DAC designs and manufactures advanced drilling control and automation systems.


Expro AX-S Technology Ltd has signed a multi-million-dollar contract with BG Group to intervene on two wells in late 2012, as well as an extended intervention campaign going into 2013 and beyond. The well interventions will consist of in-well wireline activity, including production logging, utilizing a well tractor and subsea tree removal. The company has also been awarded a contract to provide equipment and services in support of Xcite Energy’s 90-day extended well test in Bentley field. Located in Block 9/3b, 160 km east of the Shetlands, Bentley field is said to contain 116 million bbl of proven and probable reserves.


HB Rentals, a Superior Energy Services company, has completed the construction of a new facility in Aberdeen, Scotland. The 22,000-sq-ft facility features a new workshop and office with welfare amenities for the workforce, including a canteen, toilets, shower, locker room and secure storage area. Additionally, the workshop is equipped with overhead cranes, large industrial overhead shutter doors and a large concrete lay-down area to enable on-site storage. The workshop’s setup makes it possible for all work to be completed inside a controlled environment. Operations officially began from the facility in May 2012.


Trelleborg Offshore is set to open the doors of its new facility in Brazil, with the official launch confirmed for September 2012. This will make it the first company in its sector to have on-the-ground support in the region.


OriginOil, Inc., announced the formation of a dedicated business unit to aggressively market its continuous-flow, high-efficiency and chemical-free technology for frac water cleanup and petroleum recovery. The company sees high-growth potential for applying this technology to the upstream oil and gas industry.


Gulf Marine Services Saudi Arabia Ltd. (GMSSA), a joint venture between the Shoaibi Group of KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) and Gulf Marine Services of the UAE, has recently been awarded a three-year contract to support rig-less well intervention for a major offshore project in Saudi Arabia. GMSSA will provide a modern, self-propelled jackup service barge from a fleet of seven sister units, all capable of supporting well intervention, construction and maintenance activities offshore. The barge can operate in water depths up to 45 m and can accommodate 150 personnel offshore.


Enteq Upstream has acquired KM Services and Pro-Flow Fabrication Technologies, Ltd., which will now be known as Enteq KMS LLC. Both based in Houston, KM Services and Pro-Flow Fabrication Technologies, Ltd., provide customers with complex machined and fabricated parts and products for directional drilling, mud motors and measurement-while-drilling (MWD) equipment.


Downhole Products has opened its new $6-million factory in Xian, Central China. The 300,000-sq-ft purpose-built factory includes research and development facilities and has brought more than 200 jobs to the local area, with a further 100 people to be recruited later in the year as new product lines are added.


Vallourec has received a series of orders for VAM 21 premium threaded connections in the Middle East since the beginning of the year, representing a total of almost 15,000 t. The new-generation VAM 21 connection developed by Vallourec has been used successfully in various challenging environments, in the North Sea, Brazil, Southeast Asia, and most recently, the Middle East. According to the vendor, the technology is currently the only connection worldwide that is complying with the latest specification demanded by oil companies for the most demanding applications, especially offshore.


FEI has acquired Visualization Sciences Group (VSG) of Bordeaux, France. VSG provides high-performance 3D visualization software products and tools to a range of markets, including oil and gas, geosciences, mining, life sciences, materials science and industrial inspection.


Wison Offshore & Marine Ltd., a subsidiary of the Wison Group, and BPZ Energy announced the successful load-out and sail-away of the world’s first Buoyant Tower drilling and production platform, destined for installation at BPZ’s Corvina field offshore Peru. The CX-15 platform was safely completed and successfully delivered to BPZ at Wison’s Nantong, China, fabrication facility in a record 11 months from contract signature, and without a single lost-time incident. Wison’s scope included engineering, procurement and construction of the facility’s 2,500-ton Buoyant Tower hull and 1,500-ton topsides facility.


Boots & Coots, a Halliburton business line, has enhanced its pressure-control offerings with the acquisition of Old School Services. The acquisition gives Halliburton the resources to provide operators with the through-tubing equipment required to resolve production challenges faced by the rapidly growing unconventionals, horizontal drilling and multi-stage completions markets.
