Well stimulation treatments home study guide

Santrol announced the publication of Well Stimulation Treatments, Second Edition, authored by co-founder A. Richard Sinclair. This book, an authoritative resource for understanding the complexities of hydraulic fracturing, is published by the Petroleum Extension Service (PETEX), a unit of the Division of Continuing and Innovative Education at The University of Texas at Austin. Well Stimulation Treatments, Second Edition, is an advanced primer on well stimulation, a procedure that is required to unlock the prolific shale gas and oil deposits throughout North America. The text includes discussion of hydraulic fracturing, acidizing, frac packs and other methods. The text also discusses the history, applications and equipment for each method, with illustrations.

Green energy control panel

Proserv has introduced a market “first” for the oil and gas industry by developing a “green” tool for well operations. Developed in direct response to client needs, the Energy Efficient Wellhead Control Panel offers realistic, fit-for-purpose functionality for oil well operations, and significant reductions in environmental waste, energy usage and related carbon emissions. The technology has been verified as saving 20% on environmental impact after undergoing inspection by TUV Rheinland Group. Proserv’s engineering team in the Middle East and North Africa developed the solar-powered panel, which includes a reduced battery size that can provide all the power required to operate for three days continuously in the event of “no-sun” days. A wide range of other environmentally-friendly features has also been factored into the panel and its design, including the reduction of the electrical load requirement, and number of compartments and leakage paths. Biodegradable hydraulic oil has been used within this design.

Cut-resistant impact protection gloves

ORR Safety has released its latest KONG product, the cut-resistant KONG impact protection glove. The glove was developed, and is manufactured by Ironclad Performance Wear. It carries an impressive CE 4543 rating and will have a cut-resistant Level 4 rating, based on ANSI/ISEA 105-2005 standards. It was developed using CT-5 technology which is a thin, light, breathable material with an extraordinary resistance to abrasion, punctures and cuts. This glove is designed to conform to the Oil and Gas Industries Glove Guidelines and it shares the same impact-resistant characteristics as the KONG Original, which has been proven to reduce or eliminate the three most common hand injuries—hairline fractures, bruising blows and pinched fingers. The cut-resistant KONG glove will be an asset to any industrial application, where there’s a need for both impact and cut protection.

Robotized seabed seismic acquisition launched

CGGVeritas and Saudi Aramco are collaborating on a new, robotized seabed seismic data acquisition system. The SpiceRack system was unveiled at a press conference during the SEG 2012 conference. CGGVeritas and Saudi Aramco will work in partnership to develop, manufacture and commercialize a robotized solution for seabed acquisition. The system is based on the deployment of self-propelled recording nodes. CGGVeritas is also establishing a Center of Excellence for Automation in Geophysical Acquisition within a new technology center, to be opened in the Dhahran Techno Valley with ARGAS, the Saudi joint venture with TAQA.

Smart barrel pressure transmitter for shale oil and gas

United Electric Controls (UE) has introduced the TX200H, a HART smart pressure transmitter for shale oil and gas applications. The transmitter provides a very small footprint to fit the tight confines necessary for these applications. It utilizes the latest HART 7 specifications to reliably communicate asset management data while providing simplified field adjustment. A flexible 10:1 turndown on the pressure ranges from 0 to 15 psi (0 to 1 bar), up to 0 to 25,000 psi (0 to 1,724 bar), allows the TX200H transmitters to be ranged, as needed, to meet customer requirements. Typical ranges can ship quickly, in two weeks or less. The TX200H is constructed of 316 stainless steel, welded and hermetically sealed to meet enclosure type 4X and IP66 requirements. Its rugged design lends itself to being mounted directly onto the processes or panel-mounted within the control panel. Standard approvals include cULus for Class 1, Div. 1 & 2, Zone 1 and ATEX Ex d and Ex tD hazardous areas. It is CE-compliant to both PED and EMC directives. TX200H real-time diagnostics through HART 7 also reduce maintenance costs by reporting device health status and process performance, alerting users to potential problems to troubleshoot before escalation occurs.

Communications driver streamlines data delivery

Kepware Technologies has released its KEPServerEX 5.10. Significant in the release is the new ABB TotalFlow communications driver, additional support to the Electronic Flow Measurement (EFM) option, and EFM support to the Fisher ROC and ROC+ drivers for the oil and gas industry. Kepware also made enhancements to its entire library of communication drivers covering all industries, including the KEPServerEX communications server platform, developed to streamline management and diagnostics of devices. The driver helps streamline information delivery across the oil and gas supply chain by automatically polling the pipeline’s flow computers and collecting their historical flow data. These data are then formatted properly and stored locally for input to the industry’s leading flow analysis and accounting solutions, such as Flow-Cal and PGAS, via KEPServerEX’s enhanced EFM Exporter. The EFM Exporter now includes the ability to export user-configurable CSV files for use in custom flow analysis solutions, and operational monitoring and analysis, as well as easy data storage.  All drivers in Kepware’s EFM Suite now offer both EFM and real-time data, allowing customers to consolidate their data into a single-server communications platform.
