Emerson announced it has acquired Roxar ASA, creating an integrated automation solutions company whose products range from subsea oil and gas reservoirs, to platform and floating production, to transmission, refining and production. Roxar becomes part of Emerson Process Management, adding subsea reservoir management and production optimization for upstream E&P. Stavanger, Norway-based Roxar has annual revenues of about $200 million. It has 28 offices in 19 countries in Europe, the Americas, Africa, CIS, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. The company’s customer base includes all of the multinationals, major independents and the majority of national oil companies. Emerson’s PlantWeb digital architecture uses intelligent digital networks to design smart platforms, FPSOs and onshore facilities. Roxar’s products and software systems add subsea capabilities, including smart downhole networks to support real-time reservoir production optimization and flow assurance.

The OTC 2009 Woelfel Best Mechanical Engineering Achievement Award was given to Offshore Solutions for the design and operation of its Offshore Access System (OAS). This hydraulically operated heave-compensated telescopic gangway is designed to operate in 2.5-m-Hs (significant wave height) sea states, enabling the safe transfer of personnel from a vessel to an offshore installation. The OAS connects to an offshore installation though a combination of smart electronics, measuring the vessel movements with a connection sequence.

GE Oil & Gas announced the streamlining of its operating company brands. The company will transition to a single company brand interface across its upstream, midstream and downstream applications and services. The simplified company brand involves using the GE Oil & Gas name for all acquired companies, notably VetcoGray, Hydril Pressure Control and PII. However, to maintain customer recognition and consistency, specific branded product and technology names will remain, such as the VetcoGray FullBore Subsea Wellhead System and the Hydril Pressure Control Blowout Preventer. In the new structure, the GE Oil & Gas portfolio of products, services and solutions will be re-grouped into six categories: Drilling and Production; LNG & Pipeline; Industrial Power Generation; PII Pipeline Solutions; Refinery & Petrochemical; and Global Services.

BJ Services has opened a new base in Oirschot near Eindhoven, Netherlands. The new base replaces the previous process and pipeline services base in Oirschot that had been operating since 2001. It will serve as the new Continental Europe/North Africa (CENA) region headquarters for the process and pipeline services group. The purpose-built 44,670-sq-ft base features offices for engineering, sales and operations personnel, a large maintenance workshop, indoor and outdoor equipment storage areas and a training facility.
