Dr. Brian Russell, VP of Hampson-Russell Software Services Ltd., was awarded Honorary Membership at the Society of Exploration Geophysicists’ International Exposition and Annual Meeting. He received the SEG’s second highest honor for his contributions to the society and to the SEG Foundation over the last two decades. He served as SEG Second Vice President in 1993, as Chairman of The Leading Edge editorial board in 1995, technical co-chairman of the 1996 SEG annual meeting in Denver and as President of SEG during 1998-99.

Access Exploration Corp. has announced the appointment of Bobby Long as Exploration Manager. He has worked as a Geophysicist for Shell Oil, Kirby Exploration and Challenger Minerals, and most recently as Technical Director for Sunrise Energy Resources.

Pride International Inc. has appointed Steven A. Manz as VP and CFO. Manz was most recently a Director of Research for the investment bank Simmons & Company International. The company also named Alejandro (Alex) Cestero as VP and General Counsel. Cestero previously served as Deputy General Counsel, Business Affairs and Assistant Secretary.

IDM Group, a Houston, Texas-based manufacturer of drilling systems, announced that Michael Stansberry has joined the company as COO. He will have overall operational and financial responsibility for all IDM operations and subsidiaries, including Southwest Oilfield Products. Most recently, Stansberry served as CEO at Energy Services International.

Caspian Services Inc. has appointed Kerry Doyle to the positions of CEO and President. He replaces Laird Garrard, who has served as the company’s CEO since 2005 and as its President since 2004. Over the past 35 years, Doyle has served in various capacities, including Country Manager in Kazakhstan, Romania and Nigeria, and Regional Manager, West Africa Offshore, with several geophysical companies.

The Offshore Marine Service Association (OMSA), the national trade association for the US workboat industry, has taken the unusual step of hiring an experienced investigator to collect evidence on foreign vessels that violate the US law known as the Jones Act. OMSA has named Joe Kavanaugh to the new position of Manager of Jones Act Compliance to ensure that vessels involved in domestic transportation are owned by Americans, crewed by Americans and built in America. He will track foreign vessels working in the offshore oil and gas industry and work with enforcement agencies to punish violators. Kavanaugh has many years of experience enforcing regulations for the US Coast Guard, Immigration and Customs.

Compressco, a provider of natural gas production enhancement services, has named Ron Foster as President. He has served as the company’s Senior VP of Sales and Marketing since 2002. Foster has over 30 years of executive management, operations and marketing experience with Wood Group ESP, the Wheatley Gaso pump group of Halliburton and Goulds Pumps.

Texas American Resources Co. appointed Tim Taylor as COO. He has 37 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and has held positions in Gulf Oil Co., Snyder Oil Co., SOCO International and Sipes, Williamson & Associates. Dr. Taylor also served as founding President and CEO of the reservoir engineering firm, Taylor, Phelps & Caudle, and was a faculty member in the Petroleum & Geosystems Engineering Department at The University of Texas at Austin.

Baker Hughes Inc. appointed Derek Mathieson as VP and Chief Technology and Marketing Officer. He joins the company from WellDynamics, a provider of intelligent completion technology to the upstream industry, where he served as CEO.

The US Department of Energy has announced the selection of Victor K. Der as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy. In this role, Dr. Der will be responsible for office operations and, in support of the Assistant Secretary, will manage the oversight of Fossil Energy’s R&D program and the US Petroleum Reserves. A 35-year DOE veteran, he most recently served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Clean Coal.

Fugro Gravity & Magnetic Services has named Raffaela Heinbockel as Head of Geophysical Services in the Middle East. She has more than 12 years of experience in the field of geophysics worldwide. Also, Stewart Walter was appointed International Business Development Coordinator in Europe and Africa for Fugro Multi-Client Services and Fugro Gravity & Magnetic Services. He has more than 20 years of experience in the oil, gas and minerals exploration industry.

Laser scanning technology company Quantapoint named John Wilson as President and CEO. Wilson succeeds company founder Eric Hoffman, who will focus full-time on development of Quantapoint’s technology and services. Wilson has held a number of positions in the oil and gas service industry, including Executive VP at Landmark Graphics and President and CEO of Trade-Ranger Inc., a procurement portal owned by a consortium of some of the largest companies in the oil and gas industry.
