Signa Engineering Corp. announced the acquisition of Fisk/MEI Inspection Services Inc., an inspection and expediting services company for highly critical oilfield equipment and tubulars. Fisk/MEI, in its 30th year in the petroleum service industry, is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Signa Engineering.

Knowledge Reservoir, a geoscience and engineering consulting company, and Ingrain announced a strategic alliance to accelerate the use of Ingrain’s technical advances in digital rock physics. Ingrain’s labs use 3D imaging technology and computational methods to rapidly and accurately determine the physical properties and fluid flow characteristics of reservoir rocks. The digital process works equally well on core samples and drill cuttings, and significantly decreases turnaround time compared to physical core analysis.

 

Global Tubing announced that its new manufacturing and services complex in Dayton, Texas, has begun producing coiled tubing. Formed in April 2007 to meet worldwide demand for coiled tubing products and services, Global Tubing manufactures coiled tubing in sizes ranging from 0.75-in. to 5-in. OD, with wall thicknesses from 0.080 to 0.337 in. The company also provides a broad array of testing, repair and other coiled tubing services. The five-building campus includes a corporate headquarters, two mill operations buildings with laboratory facilities and two service operations and training facilities. Global Tubing employs a friction stir welding process to join strip ends to avoid reducing fatigue life of a coiled tubing string.

The international engineering and project management company Amec announced the acquisition of the UK-based asset optimization consultancy services company Performance Improvements Group Ltd. (PI). Aberdeen-based PI has a wide client base, ranging from international oil companies to new entrants, and employs 120 people.

Subsea 7 and Technip have agreed to dissolve their joint venture, Technip Subsea 7 Asia Pacific (TS7), once all its existing projects and tendered work have been completed. TS7 was formed in 2006 to provide subsea construction services in the region (excluding India and the Middle East), and has successfully executed a number of offshore development projects in the Asia Pacific region.

Proserv Abandonment and Decommissioning, a business unit of the Proserv Group, has reorganized as a separate company under the name Pro-serv Offshore. Over 18 months Proserv acquired several other firms in the abandonment and decommissioning industry, including, in the US, Twachtman Snyder & Byrd in Houston; Circle Technical Services in Houma, La., and Aberdeen, UK; and Ramstud of Atlanta, Ga. International acquisitions include Stainless Solutions in Perth, Australia; Tytan Jetting of Aberdeenshire, UK; and Promac in Stavanger, Norway.

Deep Down Inc. announced expansion plans for its buoyancy manufacturing facility and flotation testing services to meet demand for its drilling riser buoyancy system used in ultra-deepwater production. The expansion effectively doubles the company’s buoyancy manufacturing capacity. The newly engineered drilling riser buoyancy system, with its CoreTec syntactic foam buoyancy technology, is inherently stronger at depth and provides a longer service life.

NACE International and the NACE Foundation have opened the NACE International Training Center in Houston. The $2.4 million facility is the nation’s first freestanding training center dedicated exclusively to advancing corrosion education. The center, along with two existing NACE classrooms, can accommodate more than 3,000 students annually and offers more than 125 courses in corrosion identification, prevention and mitigation technologies. Courses are available for educational levels from high school graduate, or equivalent experience, to senior engineer.

Integrated Drilling Equipment (IDE) has been formed to create a vertically integrated, sole-source provider of US-manufactured, land-based drilling rigs and related components. IDE and its subsidiary groups provide all aspects of the design, manufacturing, refurbishing, reconfiguring and field servicing of land-based rigs, equipment, control systems and related parts. The subsidiaries are IEC Systems, Advanced Rig Services (ARS), IDE Hydraulics Group and IDE Capital Solutions (IDECS).

BJ Services Co. has expanded its US-based pipeline inspection services by opening a new facility in Houston. The 20,000-sq-ft facility is dedicated exclusively to providing pipeline inspection services and will further complement the services supplied by the pipeline inspection services operation center in Calgary, Alta.

Petris Technology Inc. has completed the acquisition of Intervera Ltd., a data quality solutions firm based in Calgary, Alta. Under the terms of the agreement, Petris will assume worldwide responsibility for the sales, service and future development of the Intervera software DataVera, which leverages an extensive industry-specific library of business rules to automatically find and fix complex data issues. Also, Petris has acquired ZEH Software Inc., a firm specializing in computer graphics for the oil and gas, GIS and MCAD industries.

The Oilfield Technology Group (OTG) of Hexion Specialty Chemicals announced the opening of a new production plant for its line of ValuBond resin-coated proppants in the Oklahoma City area. ValuBond is a curable resin-coated 40/70 mesh sand designed specifically for waterfrac applications.

Pegasis Riser Solutions, a new initiative within Pegasus International, has been created in an effort to expand its deepwater riser services engineering and project management capabilities. The initial objective will be to collaborate with in-house specialist resources and expand through a riser discipline hiring campaign.
