Cameron has acquired Precision Downhole Pumps, a US-based manufacturer of artificial lift equipment. Precision designs, builds, distributes and services rod lift pumping systems and associated services. Precision, based in Iola, Kansas, will be integrated into the Surface Systems division of Cameron’s Drilling & Production Systems group based in Houston.

Schlumberger has opened a new oilfield technology center in Calgary, Alta., Canada. The Heavy Oil Regional Technology Center (RTC) will provide an environment where clients can work with Schlumberger geoscientists and engineers to solve key technical challenges associated with heavy oil recovery. The heavy oil center features a 3D visualization center, a high-performance computing cluster, a multi-use conference center and an interactive collaboration space designed to accommodate locally based scientists and engineers.

Oilfield services and rental equipment provider Superior Energy Services has combined its existing pumping assets to create a consolidated Pressure Pumping Services Division. The new division specializes in a broad range of pressure pumping services including primary and remedial cementing, stimulation services, gravel packing, miscellaneous pumping and thermal services. The division operates throughout the Gulf Coast from offices in Brookshire and Longview, Texas, Broussard, La., and Laurel, Miss.

Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids has purchased the assets of North East Mud Services Co. LLC (NEMSco) of Clarksburg, W.Va. NEMSco is a supplier of drilling fluids and solids control equipment in the northeast US, with bases in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio.

Calgary, Alta.-headquartered Precision Drilling Trust announced the completion of its acquisition of Houston-based Grey Wolf Inc. Grey Wolf shareholders will receive $5.39 and 17% of a Precision trust unit for each share of Grey Wolf common stock, while Grey Wolf shareholders who chose to receive Precision trust units will receive 42.25% of a Precision trust unit for each share of Grey Wolf common stock.

SINTEF Petroleum Research and the Stavanger-based company Hitec Products Drilling AS are establishing a new company, eDrilling Solutions, to improve the efficiency of offshore drilling and well operations. The new company will have offices in Stavanger and Bergen and employ about 10 people. The company’s first product will be the “eDrilling” software package, jointly developed by SINTEF and Hitec, a system for simulating, monitoring and visualizing drilling operations in 3D and real time.

Weatherford International Ltd. announced plans for moving the company’s place of incorporation from Bermuda to Switzerland, pending shareholder approval and approval of the Bermuda Supreme Court. The company expects the redomestication to occur in early 2009, whereupon it will relocate its principal executive offices to Switzerland.

CGGVeritas announced that its subsidiary Sercel has entered into a private transaction to purchase all existing shares in Quest Geo Solutions Ltd., a UK-based software company, for a cash consideration.

Noble Denton acquired Standard Engineering and Brevik Engineering from Oslo-based Strata Marine & Offshore for NOK273 million (US$39.2 million). With this acquisition, Noble Denton increases its workforce to 730 employees.

Anchor Drilling Fluids USA Inc., the largest independent provider of drilling fluids and fluid-handling services for the US onshore drilling industry, has acquired Advantage Drilling Fluids LLC. Advantage, based in Longmont, Colo., is a provider of drilling and completion fluid services to drillers in the Piceance Basin in Colorado and the Uintah Basin in Utah. Advantage will retain its name. Anchor is owned by Castle Harlan Inc., a New York private equity investment firm.

Seismic Micro-Technology (SMT) announced that the company is now an Independent Software Vendor (ISV) partner with Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Co. Through this partnership, HP Canada will supply PC-based hardware, workstations, high-end graphics cards and high-end mobile workstations to SMT customers to maximize the performance of Kingdom, SMT’s seismic interpretation software.

Smith International and Sub-One Technology announced that they will jointly commercialize Sub-One’s InnerArmor coating technology for the OCTG industry. The joint venture, Smith InnerArmor Coating Services, will have exclusive license to supply the coatings to the oil industry worldwide.

Marathon Oil Corp. has entered into a definitive agreement with Star Energy Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), under which Star Energy Group will purchase Marathon’s wholly owned subsidiary, Marathon Oil Ireland Ltd. for $180 million. The agreement does not include Marathon’s 18.5% interest in the Corrib natural gas development.
