Rig equipment, new rigs and new rig report

Guide to New Rigs and Rig Floor Equipment 2009: Rig equipment, new rigs and new rig report. (Part 1 of 4)

The global rig market may have slowed in 2009 along with the general economy, but technological advancement continues to drive the industry forward, as evidenced by the equipment additions and new rigs highlighted in this year’s New Rigs and Rig Floor Equipment report. Contemporary industry goals are reflected in advances that address safety, environment, noise reduction and deepwater design needs.

Eight diverse equipment advances are presented in the Rig Floor Equipment segment: a self-elevating drilling system, a dual wireline drilling riser tensioner, a compact snubbing unit, a new well-test separator, a three-deck shale shaker, a double-hinged, stabberless single joint elevator, a low-noise motor and advanced software offerings.

In the New Rig Design segment, four new offerings address multiple needs. Global Energy Services, Nabors and Swift Drilling explain innovations added to their rig designs. Also, the first DSS 38 design semisubmersible, en route to Brazil from Keppel FELS, is described.
