Weatherford International Ltd. has acquired International Logging Inc. (ILI), a world-class provider of mud logging, formation evaluation and drilling-related services. ILI has a team of more than 1,200 field geologists serving customers in more than 55 countries from more than 30 offices worldwide. In addition to operating a modern fleet of surface logging units, ILI provides technologies that are designed to improve operational efficiency by supplying more reliable and accurate geological and drilling engineering information at the wellsite. Mountwest Services of Scotland, a manufacturer of specialized drillstring equipment, has opened a new manufacturing and service facility in Dubai, UAE. Mountwest Gulf makes stabilizers, stabilizer sleeves, motor sleeves and other short drillstring products. The Dubai plant features a fully automated stub welding unit capable of stubbing all non-magnetic equipment, including MWD and LWD collars. In addition, the facility will provide sales and service support for the Scottish company.

Petrofac, the international oil and gas facilities service provider, announced the opening of a new training center in Dubai, UAE. The Dubai Petroleum Training Centre (DPTC) is the result of a joint agreement between Dubai Petroleum Establishment (DPE)-the state-owned oil company of the government of Dubai-and Petrofac Training. With a training area of about 1,500 sq m, the center has cutting-edge training equipment including a mobile helicopter underwater escape training unit (pictured), a mobile confined space training unit, a rigging and lifting frame and a scaffolding area. The center also has four fully equipped classrooms.

Tenaris S.A. announced plans to increase production capacity by installing a state-of-the-art small-diameter (up to 7-in.) rolling mill with an annual production capacity of 450,000 tons of seamless pipe, at its industrial facilities in Veracruz, Mexico. The installation of the mill, along with associated iron- and steel-making and finishing facilities, will require an investment of about $1.6 billion. The mill is expected to begin operations by 2011.

Halliburton has entered into a definitive agreement with Carbo Ceramics Inc. to acquire the assets of Pinnacle Technologies Inc., including the Pinnacle brand. Pinnacle is a provider of microseismic fracture mapping and tiltmeter mapping services. The company has monitored more than 12,000 hydraulic fracture treatments since its founding in 1992. Halliburton has also entered into a multi-year ceramic proppant supply agreement with Carbo Ceramics. Under this agreement, Carbo Ceramics will retain Pinnacle’s FracProPT hydraulic fracturing consulting and also its applied geomechanics assets.

Halo LLC is opening a new rigging warehouse and test facility in Fourchon, La. It will be located in InterMoor’s 25-acre Fourchon yard and provide both companies with expanded services and capabilities. The Halo facility includes an 11,000-sq-ft warehouse and fabrication shop, a hydraulic swaging machine capable of pressing up to 3.5-in. sleeves and seven spooling units, the largest capable of handling 300,000 lb. The facility also features a 3 million-lb, 220-ft load test bed with 11-ft stroke capable of testing mooring lines and heavy-lift slings.

Modec announced that Petrobras has signed a letter of intent for the supply, charter and operations of a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel for the giant Tupi Area in the Santos Basin. Modec is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, mobilization and operations for the vessel, including topside processing equipment, hull and marine system. Sofec will design and provide the spread mooring. Modec will convert the VLCC M/V Sunrise IV into the FPSO Cidade de Angra dos Reis MV22. It will be capable of processing 100,000 bopd or 150,000 bbl of total fluids per day, 150 MMcfd gas, and have a storage capacity of 1.6 million bbl. The FPSO will also be able to inject 100,000 bbl of water per day.

Aggreko, a specialist in temporary power, temperature control and oil-free compressed air solutions, has acquired all the assets of Power Plus Rentals and Sales, a rental power specialist based in Alberta. Aggreko has served as a specialist in Dubai, the UK, South America and the US Gulf of Mexico. Power Plus provides specialized rental power solutions to businesses in the Athabasca Oil Sands in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Petrofac has acquired Caltec Ltd. for an initial consideration of £15 million cash. Caltec is a production technology company specializing in enhancement of production from mature fields.

Paradigm announced that it will collaborate with Vietnam Petroleum Institute, a provider of geoscientific and technological consultancy for the Vietnamese government, and state-owned Petrovietnam on geosciences consulting projects within Vietnam. The agreement calls for cooperation on projects related to seismic interpretation, prospect generation, geological modeling, integrated field studies and development.
