Americas. Petrobras’ Iara well discovered oil in Block BM-S-11 of the Santos Basin, offshore Brazil. Recoverable reserves are estimated at 3-4 billion bbl of 26-30°API light crude. The well was drilled to a 19,948-ft TD, 150 mi off the coast of Sao Paolo state in 7,316 ft of water. The Iara well is north of the Tupi discovery, which is also in Block BM-S-11. Petrobras is the operator with 65% interest in partnership with BG (25%) and Galp (10%). Gran Tierra Energy discovered oil with its Proa.x-1 exploration well in the Surubi Block, Noroeste Basin, Argentina. The well tested 2,324 bopd in two zones in the Lower Palmar Largo Formation, 12,649-12,661 ft and 12,620-12,641 ft. The well had a 12,920-ft TD. Gran Tierra Energy is the operator and has an 85% interest in the block, in partnership with REFSA, the provincial government company.

The well was drilled to a 19,948-ft TD, 150 mi off the coast of Sao Paolo state in 7,316 ft of water. The Iara well is north of the Tupi discovery, which is also in Block BM-S-11. Solana Resources discovered oil in its Los Aceites-1 well in the Guachiria Block of the Llanos Basin, Colombia. The well flowed 5,000 bopd of 40°API oil from perforations at 6,874-7,884 ft in the Carbonera C-7 Formation. The well was drilled to a TD of 7,108 ft. Solana operates with 100% working interest in the block.

Brigham Exploration tested 13.9 and 4.6 MMcfd from two zones in its Cotton Land-5 well in southern Louisiana. Brigham has a 45% interest and Penn Virginia has the remainder.

Asia-Pacific. Santos made a gas discovery with its Frigate Deep-1 well in Block WA-18-P of the Timor Sea, offshore northern Australia. The company indicated risked reserves of about 50 MMboe for the discovery, located 155 mi north of Wyndam in about 300 ft of water. The well was drilled to an 11,930-ft TD. Santos operates with 100% interest.

Essential Petroleum Resources’ East Wing-1ST well tested gas at up to 9 MMcfd in Block PEP168, Victoria, Australia. The test was in the Waarre Formation. The gas flowed from perforations between 7,254 and 7,293 ft.

Hess Corp. made a discovery with its Nimblefoot-1 exploration well in Block WA-390-P on the Northwest Shelf of Australia. The well found 93 ft of net gas pay and was drilled in 3,658 ft of water. Hess has 100% interest.

InterOil tested 1,130 bopd and 63 MMcfd in its Elk-4 discovery well in Block PPL238 in the Eastern Papuan Basin of Papua New Guinea. InterOil’s subsidiary SPI (208) Ltd. is the operator with 100% interest.

Europe. StatoilHydro made a deeper pool discovery on its Dagny prospect in the North Sea. The Dagny well was drilled in Block 15/5 in Production License 048 and confirmed Mid-Jurassic Hugin oil pay below the Dagny gas discovery. Recoverable reserves are estimated between 100-125 million boe. Dagny is about 6 mi northwest of the Sleipner West platform in 390 ft of water. The well was drilled to a 13,245-ft TD. StatoilHydro is the operator with 78.2% interest in partnership with Total (21.8%).

StatoilHydro’s Snefrid South discovery is in PL218 on Block 6706/12 in the Norwegian Sea, 180 mi west of Sandnessjoen Field. The well confirmed a 230-ft gas column in Late Cretaceous Nise reservoirs. The discovery is estimated to contain recoverable reserves of 141 Bcfg. The well was drilled to a TD of 12,877 ft in 4,150 ft of water. StatoilHydro operates with 75% interest in partnership with ExxonMobil (15%), and ConocoPhillips (10%).

StatoilHydro found gas in its Noatun prospect in Block 6407/7 north of Njord Field in the Norwegian Sea. Pay is in Middle and Lower Jurassic reservoirs. The well was drilled to a 17,765-ft TD in 961 ft of water. StatoilHydro (operator) has 20% interest in partnership with E.ON Ruhrgas (30%), ExxonMobil (20%), Gaz de France (20%), Petoro (7.5%) and Endeavour Energy (2.5%).

StatoilHydro’s Arenaria-1 gas discovery is in Block 7224/6 of the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea. Pay was found in Middle Triassic reservoirs but it is unclear if the accumulation will be commercial, since no pay was found in the main Jurassic objective section. StatoilHydro (operator) has a 65% interest.

Hess and OMV made a discovery with their 204/25a-8 Amos well drilled in Block 204/25a in the West of Shetlands region offshore UK. The block is operated by Hess with 47.05% interest. OMV has 17.65% along with StatoilHydro (17.65%) and Murphy Petroleum (17.65%).

PGNiG and FX Energy made a discovery with their Kromolice-1 well in the Rotliegend Sandstone in the Fences concession, Poland. PGNiG is the operator with 51% interest, and FX has the remaining 49%.

Volga Gas tested 2,000 bopd in its Uzenskaya-3 well in the Karpenskiy Block in Russia near the Kazakhstan border. The well found Jurassic pay containing 45°API between 3,248 and 3,317 ft.

Africa. RWE Dea made an oil discovery in the Sirte Basin, Libya, with its E1-NC193 well. It tested 704 bopd from the Dahra Formation at a depth of 4,823 ft. The company also found pay in its F1-NC193 well in the Upper Dahra Formation at a depth of 4,418 ft. The NC193 tested 439 bopd. RWE Dea has 100% interest.

Tullow Oil’s Kigogole-1 well is an oil discovery in Block 2 of the Butiaba region of Uganda. The well found 30 ft of pay in two zones, and was drilled to a TD of 1,988 ft.

Noble Energy tested 2,700 bopd and 2.7 MMcfd with its Diega discovery in Block I offshore Equatorial Guinea. The well has a total of 105 ft of pay in two separate pay zones. Noble is the operator of Block I with a 40% participating interest along with partners Atlas Petroleum International (29%), Glencore Exploration (25%) and PA Resources’ Osborne Resources (6%). Equatorial Guinea GEPetrol has a 5% carried interest.

StatoilHydro made a gas discovery with its Tinerkouk-2 (TNK-2) well on the Hassi Mouina Block in the Timimoun Basin of Algeria. The well tested dry gas from Lower Carboniferous reservoirs.

Bowleven tested 3,371 bopd of 36°API oil and 2.65 MMcfd on its IF-1r well offshore Cameroon in Block MLHP-7 of the Etindbe Permit of the Rio Del Rey Basin. The test was over 56 ft of perforations within a 200-ft oil column.
