Rig equipment, new rigs and new rig report

This year’s New Rigs and Rig Floor Equipment report presents numerous advances that are producing safer, more efficient and environmentally friendly rigs.

The Rig Equipment segment introduces 11 new products and tools. Automation continues as a major trend with new pipe handling tools, pipe tongs and spider/elevator devices. Top drives receive new attention with a more powerful version and a basic land-rig unit. Offshore operations have a new tree deployment system, while land operators now have a “smart” test separator to better cope with erratic well flows.

Three new rig designs have been developed for the rapidly evolving resource plays across the US. IDM Group in conjunction with Grey Wolf Inc. introduces the PaDSRig (Production and Drilling System). IDE spotlights its new SSDS (Sparta Series Drilling System), while Veristic Technology shows off its Rocket Rig and American Auger introduces a new rack-and-pinion rig, the VR-330.
