The British Consulate-General in Houston appointed R. Mitchell Jeffrey as its vice consul, political, press and public affairs. He will manage political affairs, press relations and other matters relating to the office and its operating groups. Prior to joining the Consulate-General, he was president and founder of his own public relations and marketing firm. Before that, he served as VP and general manager of Ogilvy & Mather Public Relations in Houston.

World Oil appoints engineering editor

Victor A. Schmidt was named Drilling Engineering Editor of World Oil. He earned a BS in Geology from the University of Florida in 1974 and began his oil industry career with Getty Oil the following year. Schmidt has worked as a geologist and geophysical interpreter with Getty Oil and other oil companies, and consulted with several smaller firms. In 1991, he completed an MBA from the University of Houston and joined Offshore Data Services as a research associate, tracking multiple segments of the offshore oil and gas industry. In 1997, he joined Offshore magazine as international editor and later served as exploration editor, tracking technologies and techniques of the upstream business. 

 

Simon A. Shaw, a 2005 University of Houston graduate from the Department of Geosciences, will receive the J. Clarence Karcher Award from the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. The award recognizes significant contributions by a young geophysicist of outstanding abilities under the age of 35. A maximum of three such awards is given each year, internationally, by SEG. Shaw developed an imaging series algorithm that has the potential to provide accurate depth imaging beneath a complex overburden.

CCI Thermal Technologies Inc. appointed Bernard C. Moore as president and COO. His responsibilities will be expanded to include overall day-to-day management of all CCI Thermal operating facilities and the achievement of the corporate strategic objectives.  Harold A. Roozen will continue as chairman and CEO. This reorganization will allow Roozen to focus on long-term strategic initiatives.

Ridgeway Petroleum Corp. named Rodney L. Eson as chairman of its board of directors. He has been a director of the company since November 2004. Eson is CEO of Foothill Energy, LLC, a company he founded in 2004. From 1971 to 2004, he held a series of technical and executive positions with General Dynamics Corp., Century Oil Management, Enhanced Petroleum Technology and Venoco.

W&T Offshore, Inc., announced several promotions. Joe Slattery and Jeff Durrant were promoted to senior VP. Slattery joined W&T Offshore in November 2002 as VP of Operations. He has over 29 years of experience, specializing in project management and field operations. Durrant, senior VP of Exploration/ Geoscience, joined the company in 1997, serving most recently as VP of Exploration. Also, Amy Brumfield, Steve Schroeder, Cliff Williams and Dan Huffman were promoted to VP; and Manuel Mondragon and Brian Harvey to assistant VP.

Knight Oil Tools has named Eric Busch as corporate account representative. He will be responsible for business development and sales growth of the company’s four business lines. Most recently, Busch served as a project manager and engineer for Houston-based PB Energy Storage Services, Inc. Also, Rod Warmke was promoted to regional sales manager, Mid-Continent. He will be responsible for all sales in Oklahoma and the Permian basin area of Texas.

Shell promoted  Raoul Restucci to executive VP for Middle East, Russia and CIS of Shell Exploration & Production Middle East (EPM), following the retirement ofRon van den Berg. He was formerly executive VP for Shell Exploration & Production in the Americas. In addition,  Charles Watson was appointed country chair for Shell in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Watson will also serve as “cluster chair” for Iraq, Jordan and Yemen. These roles are in addition to his Dubai-based regional role as executive VP for Shell Gas and Power, covering North Africa, Middle East and South Asia.

Baker Hughes Inc. announced that Ray A. Ballantyne, president of INTEQ, will retire after 30 years of service. Martin S. Craighead, president of Baker Atlas, will succeed Ballantyne as president of INTEQ. David H. Barr, group president, Drilling and Evaluation, assumes the additional responsibilities for Baker Atlas until a successor is found for Craighead.

As part of a list submitted to parliament, new conservative President  Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad nominated Mohammad-Ali Saeed-lou to be Iran’s next oil minister. Saeed-lou would replace long-servingBijan Namdar Zangeneh. Saeed-lou has a petroleum engineering degree, but he hasn’t held a senior position in the country’s oil sector. At press time, he was serving as Tehran’s acting mayor. Previously, he served as a deputy commerce minister, in charge of promoting exports. Saeed-lou’s confirmation was expected to depend partially on a four-year plan that he presented to parliament for the hydrocarbon sector.

OBITUARY

Walter B. Ruck, Ridgeway Petroleum chairman and former CEO, died Sunday, July 3, 2005. Ruck was the founding shareholder of Ridgeway Petroleum Corp. 25 years ago, and he was instrumental in the exploration, discovery and appraisal of the company’s Helium and Carbon Dioxide field at St. Johns, Arizona.
