The Texas Railroad Commission elected Elizabeth Ames Jones as chairman. She is only the third woman to serve in this capacity in the 114-year history of the commission, which oversees the Texas oil and gas industry. Each commissioner is elected statewide to a staggered six-year term. Jones was elected three times to the Texas House of Representatives before being appointed to the Railroad Commission in February 2005.

Simmons & Company International named company president Michael E. Frazier as CEO. He joined the firm in 1992 to assist in starting its securities business, and was named president in 2001. Prior to joining Simmons, Frazier spent six years actively involved in the exploration and production of oil and gas as an independent operator, and was associated for 14 years with a Houston-based securities firm, specializing in the marketing of energy research to institutions. Matthew R. Simmons will continue as chairman of the board of directors.

Ben A. Eaton joined GeoMechanics International in Houston as senior pore and fracture pressure prediction advisor. Dr. Eaton created the most commonly used method to evaluate pore pressure in the oil and gas industry. He has been a worldwide consultant in drilling engineering for 35 years. In 1970, he founded Universal Drilling and Engineering Consultants Inc., a subsidiary of Texas-United, and launched Eaton Industries five years later, retiring as president in August 2005. He has been widely published in World Oil and other publications.

BJ Process and Pipeline Services appointed Mark Ashworth as sales manager, Eastern Canada. He has more than 12 years of international experience in the oil, gas and petrochemical industry, with particular emphasis on business development and marketing strategy.

John A. Hagg retired from Berry Petroleum Co., an independent oil and gas production and exploitation company in Bakersfield, Calif. Hagg served on the Berry board of directors since 1994.

Fugro Robertson Inc. appointed gravity and magnetics specialist Raffaela Heinbockel to bolster the capabilities of its divisional office in Dubai, UAE. For the LCT Gravity and Magnetics Division, she will administer integrated interpretation, software sales and training, marine data acquisition and data processing. Heinbockel worked nearly three years in Dubai as a geophysicist and a magnetics specialist.

Sampat Prakash was named energy and resources industry leader for Deloitte Consulting LLP in the organization’s Mid-America Region. He has over 20 years of experience in energy consulting in Europe, the Middle East and the US. Prakash has consulted for two supermajors as the lead client partner over the past four years.

Flowserve Corp. has selected Lewis M. Kling as president, CEO, and a member of the board of directors. Kling currently serves as COO at Flowserve. He succeeds interim chairman, president and CEO Kevin E. Sheehan. Sheehan, a director since 1990, was named non-executive chairman of the board.

Varel International appointed F. Michael Pisch as the company’s new CFO. He will be responsible for all elements of global finance for the company, and for Information Technology and Human Resources in North America. Pisch has over 20 years of operating experience. He joined Varel from GE, where he spent five years in various financial roles. Varel also announced that William Burton has been named VP of sales and operations for the Western Hemisphere  –  North, and David Wilson was hired as the new VP of sales and operation for Western Hemisphere  –  South.

Sibneft chief engineer Iskander Diyashev has been elected as director-at-large of SPE, becoming the first Russian to serve on the board of directors of this organization. Diyashev will serve a three-year term. Sibneft employees established the SPE Western Siberian chapter in Noyabrsk and are also key members of the SPE’s Moscow branch.

Harvest Natural Resources elected James A. Edmiston as president and CEO. This follows the retirement of Harvest president and CEO Peter J. Hill, who will remain on the company’s board of directors. Edmiston has been with Harvest since September 2004, when he was named executive VP and COO.

Five Houston-based geoscientists were elected to the 2005 – 2006 executive committee of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG). New officers from Houston are: president-elect Leon Thomsen, senior advisor at BP; first vice president David Monk of Apache Corp.; second vice president Steve Danbom of Danbom Geophysics; secretary-treasurer Frank D. Brown of Dawson Geophysical; and editor Yonghe Sun of Chevron. Other officers are president Terry Young, head of the Dept. of Geophysics at the Colorado School of Mines, and vice president Mariangela Capello of Halliburton Digital and Consulting Solutions, Venezuela.

J P Kenny appointed David Jordan to the newly created post of global subsea advisor. He will be responsible for high-level technical assurance across the company’s portfolio of subsea projects around the world, as well as leading its developing subsea production business.
