Mud cooler enhances offshore operations

The MC 003 mud cooler is the offshore version of the series of world-class mud coolers developed by Task Environmental Services BV (TES) for the oil/gas industry. The special feature of this mud cooler is that it uses two separate heat exchangers, comprising titanium cooling plates and an intermediate cooling fluid.

In the primary heat exchanger, the drilling mud gives off heat to a mixture of water and glycol. This mixture gives off heat to the second heat exchanger, and in turn, to the seawater. As an additional protection system, sensors are fitted in the seawater outlet that immediately detects any oil leak.

This special mud cooler has been successfully employed by a number of oil companies and drilling contractors, in offshore applications, since its introduction. The mud cooler offers these advantages, as it:

  • Is suitable for mud cooling for HPHT drilling
  • Extends useful life of drilling equipment
  • Has environmental benefits
  • Improves working conditions
  • Is also double-protected against oil spills.

The MC 003 is built into a 15-ft container and weighs 7 mt. The technical design of this cooler is patent pending. As well as renting out its mud coolers, the company will supply an engineer for operating the cooler on request.

The company develops, builds and leases a range of equipment for the drilling industry, including mud coolers, decanters, shakers, desanders, desilters, vacuum units, hydro cyclones and belt screen presses. Since its founding in 1994, the company has developed into a functioning organization relying on years of experience of a group of service engineers and operators. Its core activity is the rental of solids control equipment. Its area of operations extends throughout Europe. WO
