BJ Services Co. received the BP Norge 2003 Contractor HSE (Health, Safety & Environmental) Award. BP Norge hosts a Contractor HSE day every year to recognize outstanding contributions by selected contractors. BJ Services was selected to receive the award from 18 of BP Norge's top contractors that service BP assets in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.


Mustang Engineering and Syntroleum Corp. signed an agreement permitting Mustang to provide full-service design, engineering, procurement and construction services to Syntroleum and its licensees for facilities using the company's proprietary gas-to-liquids process. The technology converts natural coal-derived syngas into synthetic crude.


The Minerals Management Service has given Baker Energy its 2003 Production Contractor Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE) in the Houma District of the Gulf of Mexico. The award recognizes companies that emphasize safe, responsible operations through targeted safety training and creation of procedures that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The company received the SAFE award based on operations on two of its deepwater facilities.


BG Group has completed the purchase of El Paso Oil and Gas Canada, Inc., from El Paso Corp. for US$345.6 million. The assets held by the acquired company, which will now be called BG Canada Exploration and Production Inc. (BG Canada), include 630,000 acres of net undeveloped oil and gas acreage. The company also holds producing assets in Alberta and British Columbia.


The Houston Chapter of IADC donated $40,000 to Just Like Us, Inc., a charity that provides equipment and services to benefit severely disabled children in special programs in Houston. With the IADC funding, Just Like Us was able to provide equipment enabling non-verbal children to communicate, regardless of their disabilities. In addition, the donation will be used to purchase a new device designed to improve mobility of wheelchair-bound children.


Tenaris S.A. signed a letter of intent with a private investor group, which may lead to the company obtaining a controlling interest in S.C. Silcotub S.A, Zalau. Silcotub is the leading Romanian producer of small-diameter seamless pipes for OCTG and other applications. It has an annual production capacity of 180,000 tons of seamless pipes. Its facilities include a continuous mandrel mill, finishing facilities and a cold-drawing plant.


Offshore Hydrocarbon Mapping plc (OHM), a company new to Aberdeen just two months ago, announced its flotation on London's Alternative Investment Market (AIM). A spin-out from the University of Southampton's Oceanography Centre, OHM was formed in 2002 to provide active source electromagnetic services to the offshore oil industry. The technique used to examine hydrothermal and volcanic systems on mid-ocean ridges was enhanced to make a new tool in hydrocarbon exploration and reservoir assessment. The tool itself acts as a middleman between the seismic surveys and the actual drilling.


Paradigm, provider of advanced petroleum geoscience and drilling engineering technology to the oil and gas industry, has donated over US$6 million in software to the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), bringing the latest oil and gas E&P technologies to the biggest university in Latin America. The donation includes Paradigm's visualization, interpretation and reservoir characterization software, which will run on workstations in the Earth Sciences Engineering Division of the University. Paradigm also donated geoscience information software valued at US$715,000, to Cardiff University's School of Earth, Ocean and Planetary Science in Wales. The donation is a wide-ranging portfolio of geological and geophysical software used in E&P, including major building blocks of its Trace-to-Target software package. Among the donated software are VoxelGeo volume interpretation, Focus for seismic data processing, the Stratimagic seismic facies classification package and Geolog well log correlation and petrophysical analysis software.


Sondex, a specialist oilfield technology company, has opened a new office and maintenance storage facility in Beijing, China. The new facilities will provide sales and support in China, where the company has recently gained a number of new customers and contracts.


UK corrosion monitoring specialist Cormon opened a new regional office in Abu Dhabi, providing a service and support hub for the region. The new presence in the Mid-East region follows the successful development of services in Aberdeen.


K&B Machine has earned two quality- management certificates from the American Petroleum Institute. API found the Houma, Louisiana-based company in compliance with both the ISO 9001-2000 and the API Specification Q1. Both standards require approved quality management in the design and manufacture of wellhead components, the threading of casing, tubing, accessories, and general machining.


Oil industry technology company Ødegaard is establishing an office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to meet demand for its services from the E&P industry in Southeast Asia. Ødegaard is a provider of software and service products for extraction of rock properties from seismic data.


Flowserve Corp. and global underwater contractor Subsea 7 have entered into a collaboration agreement to exploit the emerging subsea multiphase pumping and processing market. Flowserve and Subsea 7 were awarded a contract to perform a qualification program on a joint industry project venture for phase two of the MPSP 1500 project. The purpose of the study is to confirm the suitability of the Subsea 7/ Flowserve multiphase pumping system package in water depths to 1,500 m.


Landmark Graphics division of Halliburton has granted US$13.9 million in integrated E&P software and services to Memorial University of Newfoundland. This further extends Landmark's relationship with Memorial in the support of their goal of becoming the leading earth science studies institute in Canada. The grant will enable Memorial University to build and operate a state-of-the-art immersive visualization facility, which Landmark is helping design and implement.
