Tenaris, a supplier of tubular goods and services to the oil and gas industry worldwide, announced that its Siderca seamless pipe operations in Campana, Argentina, were awarded the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) quality management certification by the Japanese Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Industry (METI). The JIS certification is considered one of the most demanding industrial quality management standards, and this is one of few such certifications that have been awarded to an industrial operation in the Americas. 


ConocoPhillips committed $1 million to support students and faculty in Texas A&M University's business, geosciences and engineering programs. The company designated its gift to support scholarships, faculty fellowships, programs and student organizations in the university's College of Geosciences, Look College of Engineering and Mays Business School. It will also create the SPIRIT Scholars Program for geosciences, engineering and business students interested in energy business careers, awarding scholarships and internships with ConocoPhillips. 


Petroleum Geo-Services ASA has completed the sale of its software subsidiary, PGS Tigress (UK) Ltd. through a management buyout, following a reorganization of Tigress as an independent division. Based in Marlow, UK, Tigress has more than 150 software installations in 42 countries. The company develops and markets a suite of reservoir interpretation software integrated around an Oracle database. 


ABB agreed to sell the upstream part of its Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals division to a newly incorporated company formed by a consortium of Candover Partners Ltd, 3i and JPMorgan Partners. The initial sale price is $925 million with a potential deferred consideration of an additional $50 million. ABB is selling its US-based Vetco Gray unit and its ABB Offshore Systems business, headquartered in Norway. Not included in the sale is the downstream business ABB Lummus Global. 


TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Co. was selected for membership in the Kempen/SNS Smaller Europe Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) Index. SRI is a designation for companies that meet high standards for their practices with employees, the environment and the community as well as traditional financial performance. The index is a joint initiative of Kempen Capital Management and SNS Asset Management, noted for its SRI analysis. 


Houston-based oil and gas drilling consulting company Signa Engineering Corp. will continue as advisor after completing a study of LUKoil's Kravtsovskoye D6 offshore drilling platform development project in the Baltic Sea. Signa was retained last quarter by a subsidiary of the Russian company to perform a due diligence study on a multi-directional well drilling operation in the Kravtsovskoye oil field, the largest field off the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad.
