Real-time LWD system

Schlumberger Oilfield Services' seismicVISION logging-while-drilling system acquires and transmits data in real time without interfering with drilling operations. The system delivers traditional borehole-seismic measurements including checkshot and internal velocity, reducing uncertainty ahead of the bit. Seismic wave forms are available in memory.

Erosion-resistant choke trim

The MOS Multi Orifice Sleeve from Wood Group Pressure Control minimizes erosion of choke components by controlling pressure drops and associated velocities. A series of strategically positioned orifices direct and impinge the flow upon itself, absorbing fluid energy while controlling flow and minimizing metal loss associated with fluid-phase changes and vibration. Because erosion is most likely when the valve cracks open, the flow ports in the choke are not immediately exposed. A flow dead-band area allows the mating surfaces to separate far enough to minimize instantaneous velocity damage.

Pressure and temperature sensor system

Oluma's Deep Well Optical Pressure and Temperature Sensing System is designed for high-signal-loss environments. This can be caused by hydrogen darkening of the fiber, long deployment distances, and installation issues in oil and gas wells. The evanescently coupled optical pressure sensor is the first to use molecular forces instead of physically stressing an optical element. The system incorporates optical fiber sensors designed for monitoring pressure and temperature in extreme environments such as downhole.

High-load chain for offshore

Diamond Chain Company introduced its largest chain to date, the ANSI 240. The specially designed medium carbon alloy steel pins in the 240 roller chain make it suited for high-torque, high-load applications. The chain is designed to meet the extreme demands of offshore oil drilling, and is manufactured to the latest API 7F specifications. Diamond ANSI standard roller chains are available in pitches ranging from 1/4 to 3 in. (25 – 240). Diamond's ANSI 240 chain offerings include 240 riveted, 240H riveted, and cottered single, double, or triple strand.

Non-stick coating for oilsands equipment

RCAI released a coating agent that is formulated to reduce maintenance costs in the oilsands industry. ALDEROX TSR, is the first environmentally friendly non-stick coating that has worked under oilsands conditions. Test showed that oilsands readily fell off vehicles when dried, and equipment that is normally washed every few days requires up to 60% less labor. Exhaust systems, transmissions and many undercarriage parts can be coated with ALDEROX TSR.

Coiled tubing fluid

M-I has produced a rheologically engineered well intervention fluid specifically engineered for coiled tubing operations. The FloPro CT has a solids content of less than 1% by volume, and features hydraulically optimized rheology, lubrication and density, making it well-suited for a wide range of coiled tubing intervention applications, including deep wells with higher angles and complex paths. It is thermally stable to above 300°F, and reduces mechanical drag, helixing and buckling.

Completion system for cemented wells

Baker Oil Tools introduced the first completion system developed specifically to add artificial lift capability and improved safety on cemented monobore wells, the Mono-Trip CemenThru completion system. Components specifically designed for cement-through applications include a patented side pocket gas lift mandrel, a tubing-retrievable surface controlled subsurface valve (TRSCSSV), and a hydrostatic circulating valve. The system also includes a hydraulically set liner top packer, a dual wiper plug and a latch collar.

Combining torque, tension

Is torque better than tension or vice-versa? Tension has the benefit of straight axial bolt elongation, while torque gives precision nut seating without over-pulling the bolt. HYTORC has combined the benefits of torque and tension to provide an optimal fastening system. This independent test report by BASF, in English, French, Spanish, and other languages, is available along with the company's Bolting Revolution catalogue.

Single-source capabilities

Dresser-Rand's range of capabilities for rotating equipment services is detailed in a new six-page brochure available online or by email. In addition to replacement parts and remanufacturing services, the company offers equipment rerates, revamps and upgrades, field support services, rotor storage, advanced weld repairs, coatings, and on-site audits. The company operates nearly 30 service centers in 16 countries to meet clients' energy conversion needs quickly and efficiently.

Vibration analyzer

Emerson Process Management announced a new application for its CSI 2130 RBMconsultant PRO vibration data collector/ analyzer. The Advanced Cross Channel enables users to diagnose the root causes of machinery failures. It employs cross-channel impact testing to identify excessive structural resonance, an underlying cause of component failure in rotating machinery. This expands the capabilities of the portable model 2130, allowing plant personnel to gather vibration information more quickly, saving time in data collection and analysis.
