 Industry chemicals

Fig 1Jacam Chemicals produces special chemicals for industry, such as emulsion breakers, surfactants, foamers and defoamers. It also provides paraffin products, corrosion inhibitors, gas sweeteners, water treatment, refinery process chemicals, and scale inhibitors and removers. Its latest brochure introduces these products and the company’s other specialty areas. One featured item is its System Saver Pellets. This product does not require circulation, which the company claims could cut production loss. The pellets are weighted to treat above the pump and the dead fluid column below it. The brochure further explains this product’s features and benefits.

 Geothermal systems

A new brochure by TIX-IKS introduces its geothermal systems. This brochure describes the company’s through-conduit, API 6D expanding-gate valves, which are capable of handling fluids, gases, steam and heated water up to 1,000°F. Its through-conduit API 6D slab-gate valves operate at -20°F to 250°F or up to 550°F with special seat-sealing materials. These valves simplify seat replacement and allow servicing without removing the body from the line. Wellheads, casing heads, expansion spools, geothermal packoffs, flow-tees and crosses are also shown.

 Spill reporting procedures

Environmental compliance professionals are able to quickly respond to environmentally hazardous spills and are able to comply with environmental protection agency and state requirements by referring to the Spill Reporting Procedures Guide, 2003 Edition, by BNA Books. The guide allegedly saves time and offers current references that detail spill reporting requirements, time limits, mode of report, and required details from the federal government, US states and the District of Columbia. The guide was updated in 2003 to follow revised federal requirements for reporting hazardous liquid pipeline incidents involving oil and other substances.

 Monitoring systems

Fig 2 With Wood Group ESP’s new family of SmartGuard monitoring systems, operators can accurately track and retrieve real-time information related to critical performance parameters, the company’s latest brochure reads. Output control loads that respond to selected inputs are available. The company claims that more accurate information and control can lead to lower operating costs and longer run times, which translate into increased production. Engineers designed the downhole sensor to be oilfield-rugged with no moving parts to wear out. It is resistant to vibration and has been field-proven for reliability.

 Down-hole pumps

R&M Energy Systems published a new product overview based on its complete line of Moyno downhole pumps. These cavity pumps are specifically designed for crude oil extraction and gas well dewatering. The bulletin includes a complete product preview that lists dimensions and capacities for all models. They require minimal maintenance because they have only one moving part downhole.

 Well control guidelines

The International Association of Drilling Contractor’s deepwater well control guidelines are now available in CD-ROM. They were designed to aid industry in deepwater operations and focus on well planning, well control procedures, equipment, emergency response and training. A supplement published in 2000 –  a recent update to the guidelines – covers unplanned disconnects in deepwater drilling, riser margin overview, external loading of BOP equipment and volumetric rating of subsea accumulator bottles. Based on years of experience and studies, the guidelines provide a basis to build future deepwater operations.

 Flow assurance technology

Fig 3Baker Petrolite published a brochure describing its deepwater flow assurance technology and how it can reduce capital investment and lower operating expenses. Its certified line of products and services for deepwater and subsea sectors of oil and gas production includes chemical treatments, laboratory testing, and prediction modeling to control a variety of problems that can impede deepwater oil and gas production. These problems involve hydrates, paraffins, asphaltenes, scale and corrosion. HI-M-PACT hydrate inhibitors are the latest additions to the Fathom line of products and services.
