Wood Group ESP has appointed Joseph C. Mitcho to the new position of vice president, Organizational Development. His career spans nearly 35 years. 

Grant Prideco, Inc., appointed Michael McShane to chairman, in addition to duties as president and CEO. The firm also appointed James M. (Jay) Mitchell treasurer. Previously, he served as director of finance and investor relations.

Sam Laidlaw has been named a new executive vice president, Business Development, of ChevronTexaco. He will be responsible for identifying and developing new, large-scale business opportunities throughout the world, and will also serve on the corporation’s executive and strategic planning committees. In addition, the company has created ChevronTexaco Global Gas (CTGG), to be led by John D. Gass as a corporate vice president. James R. Blackwell will succeed Gass as managing director of ChevronTexaco’s Southern Africa business unit in Luanda, Angola.

GlobalSantaFe Corp. elected Jon A. Marshall president and CEO. He succeeds C. Stedman “Sted” Garber, Jr., who is retiring. Marshal first joined the company in 1979 and was previously COO.

Weatherford International Ltd. announced an internal realignment of its businesses into a two-division structure: Drilling Services and Production Systems, folding its three existing divisions into the two new segments. Consequently, the company made several senior executive appointments. Gary L. Warren has become president of Weatherford’s Drilling Services division, E. Lee Colley has been named president of the Production Systems division, and Stuart E. Ferguson is the company’s chief technology officer. 

FX Energy, Inc. formed a Technical and Industry Advisory Panel to advise and consult with management in connection with the three “Fences” project areas in Poland’s Permian basin, where the company holds an interest in 1.5 million acres. The panel will include: Richard Hardman, who built a career in international exploration over the past 40 years; Philip Gardner, who worked for 29 years in international oil and gas exploration and production as a geologist; and Steven McTiernan, with over 30 years of diverse energy experience with Amoco, Mesa, British Petroleum and other companies.

Team Energy Resources Limited, a subsidiary of UWG Group, has appointed Mark Hewett as managing director. He joined UWG Group in 1995 as a petroleum engineer.

Range Resources Corp. announced that Charles L. Blackburn has been elected a director of the company, also succeeding Thomas J. Edelman as chairman of the board. Blackburn has served as an executive vice president of Shell Oil Co., and as chairman and CEO of Maxus Energy Corp. He has more than 40 years of experience in the oil industry.

Explore Enterprises of Louisiana, LLC, added two oil and gas industry veterans as partners. Cheryl R. Collarini has been named vice president of engineering, and Leon Hirsch will serve as vice president of land. Collarini has almost 30 years of experience in reservoir engineering, property evaluation and business leadership. Hirsch has 30 years of experience in all phases of the industry.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson was elected 2003 – 2004 chairman of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission. He will succeed North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven in October. Other new officers include Donald L. Mason of Ohio as vice chairman and Randy Ruedrich of Alaska as second vice chairman. Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski was named chairman-elect.

Archie Dunham, chairman of ConocoPhillips, is the recipient of the United States Energy Award for 2003. This award recognizes his tireless support of US Energy Association, as well as his global leadership in the energy industry.

Richard R. Lessard, PhD., senior engineering advisor at ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Co. in Fairfax, Virginia, has been named a 2003 recipient of the Award of Merit from ASTM International. The honor, which includes the title of fellow, is the highest society recognition for individual contributions to standards activities. Lessard received the award for his leadership in standards development relating to chemical treatments for oil spill response and cleanup.

AnTech Ltd, a specialist engineering design and manufacturing company, appointed Matthew Knight electronics design engineer with the Special Engineering Projects Department. In his new role, Knight will serve as electronics design engineer responsible for further development of RED-I, AnTech’s new data-acquisition system that uses infra-red to transmit data in hazardous zones wirelessly. 

After assuming the CEO title last January, John F. Lauletta was elected chairman of the board at Varco International Inc. He succeeds George Boyadjieff, who remains on the board as a director. In addition, the firm elected Joseph C. Winkler president. He had assumed the COO title last January.

DEATHS

G. W. “George” Stowe, 68, the retired senior vice president of Manufacturing for Harbison-Fischer Manufacturing Company, Crowley, Texas, died on April 26, 2003, while on a trip to Mississippi. Stowe began his career with Harbison-Fischer in 1950 as a machine operator. He retired in 2000. During his 50 years of service, he was instrumental in the design and implementation of numerous innovative machines and processes for the sucker rod pump manufacturing industry.
