Those expecting an upturn by the end of 2002, to date have been disappointed. Oil and natural gas prices remain fairly high and basically stable, but no great improvement has been shown by any of the market indicators. The U.S. Gulf of Mexico, mobile offshore rig utilization rate was up 1.15% from last year. The rest of the mobile rig counts were down, but not substantially. U.S. oil production continued its slight decline. World oil production registered a small increase from October to 78.47 million bpd.
