 John Gibson became president and CEO of Halliburton’s Energy Services Group, replacing the retiring Edgar Ortiz.

 Collanini Engineering promoted Mitch Reece as manager of reservoir engineering for the company’s Houston office.

 Unocal Corp. named A. J. “Tony” Best as president and CEO of its Pure Resources, Inc., subsidiary.

 EnCana Corp. appointed Randall K. Eresman senior executive VP and COO, assuming leadership of EnCana’s worldwide E&P activities.

 MainTech Maintenance, Inc., elected Anisse Peters as corporate secretary.

 The Wood Group subsidiary, Santos Barbosa, appointed Luiz Fernando Mendonça de Faria operations director.

 Kenneth E. Arnold was selected as the 2003 Houston-area “Engineer of the Year” by the Houston Engineering Community.

 Lev Ring joined Weatherford International Ltd. as director of solid expandable technology. 

 Albert-Garaudy and Associates, Inc., welcomes Richard (Mike) Akin to its Houston office as new business development/project manager.

 David L. Stover joined Noble Energy, Inc., as business development VP, responsible for pursuing new business opportunities, as well as managing global acquisition and divestiture activities.

 Sunoco, Inc., promoted Michael S. Kuritzkes and Rolf D. Naku to senior VPs. Terence P. Delaney became VP.

 Li Xiao of VIP-SINA, based in Beijing, will lead Concept System’s future representation in Cina with immediate effect.

 The Eastern section of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists recently established an endowment within the AAPG foundation to fund a named grant honoring Richard W. Beardsley. It will be bestowed annually to a graduate student to support study and research of petroleum energy minerals and related environmental geology in eastern North America.

 Donald W. Axford retired from Canadian Superior Energy to devote more time to his family’s energy businesses.

 Itron, Inc., named Steve Helmbrecht VP and general manager of its international business unit.

 Olivier Debois was appointed to the management board of Technip-Coflexip.

 Donal P. Maloney was named president and CEO of Elliott Turbomachinery Co., Inc., succeeding David G. Assard, who retired in September.

 Enterprise Products Partners L.P. elected James M. Collingsworth as senior VP.

 Balmoral Norge AS appointed Sigmund Andreassen technical manager.

 BJ Services’ Hassan Farshbaf was appointed country manager for Algeria with the Well Services Division-Europe & Africa region. Bruce Campbell was promoted to UK country manager for the same division.

DEATHS

 Carl D. Fromme Sr., 83, passed away July 5 in Longview, Texas. He spent his career as a sales representative for oilfield services and equipment at TriState Fishing Tool Co.

 Don Taylor, former editor of Ocean Industry, sister publication of World Oil, died January 14 at the age of 87. He earned his engineering degree from Hardin Simmons University and worked for Gulf Publishing Co. from March 1951 until Nov 1955. He returned to GPC in Aug. 1967 and retired in Sept. 1984. He loved sniffing out stories and traveled the world with his wife to find them.
