Expro Americas, Inc, announced the completion of its move into an extensive new operations facility in Broussard, Louisiana. This facility supports the group’s operations not only in the Gulf of Mexico, but throughout the Americas. This investment reflects the group’s long-term commitment to the Gulf of Mexico and highlights the expectation of increasing demand for the group’s portfolio of technologies. The facilities are built on a 9.5-acre site and include over 1 acre of workshop space, housing specialist workshop areas and a deepwater subsea high bay, a 9,150-sq-ft enclosed store area and 14,000 sq ft of offices. 


Baker Petrolite will form a new venture with Sonangol, E.P., the Angolan national oil company, Vernon Angola Services, Inc., and an affiliate of Baker Petrolite Corporation. The venture will operate as Baker Petrolite Angola Limited and will provide oilfield chemicals and services to oil companies and operators in Angola. The venture is consistent with Sonangol’s goal of strengthening the local economy by investing in the local infrastructure and attracting technical capabilities to help develop high-end services for the oil industry in Angola. The new venture is expected to employ local nationals and provide training for professionals and technicians, and will provide specialty products, application technologies and engineering solutions to customers in Angola. The agreement calls for the new company to establish offices, a technical support services center, a product stock point and a blending facility.


CGG’s subsidiary Sercel acquired all shares in Sodera S.A., a company based in Toulon, France. Sercel has also acquired most assets of Seismic Systems Inc., Sodera’s sister company located in Houston. Sodera is a provider of airgun sources used mainly in seismic data acquisition. In 2002, Sodera and Seismic Inc. reported around $4 million in revenues.


Westport Resources Corp. has agreed to purchase from United Resources oil and gas assets located in South Texas for approximately $350 million. Westport estimates the proved reserves of the properties as of Dec. 1, 2003 to be approximately 211 Bcfe, of which 97% is natural gas and 60% is proved developed. The properties are currently producing approximately 78 Mmcfe/d, and the company expects to operate about 86% of the net production. In addition, Westport has identified greater than 100 Bcfe of probable and possible potential and an exploratory prospect inventory composed of 48,000 gross (25,000 net) undeveloped acres. Westport will allocate approximately $38 million to unproved properties, undeveloped acreage, seismic data, exploration projects and other assets.


UWG Group, a provider of deepwater riser solutions, well systems and well decommissioning, has acquired MENCK GmbH, the German-based anchoring and foundations specialist, from J Ray McDermott SA. MENCK is a financially strong international company that has been at the forefront of innovation in the pile driving industry since the company’s formation in 1868.
