New literature

Seepex has a brochure available on its semi-submersible, BE range pumps that are vertically installed. These units consume less floor space than horizontal PC pumps. Thus, they are ideal for offshore platforms, blending tanks, scum pits or any area where space is at a premium. The pump casings and universal joints are designed to accommodate pressures up to 175 psi and capacities up to 1,300 usgpm. These maintenance-friendly, low-operating-cost pumps can be constructed of carbon steel, 304 – 316 or duplex stainless steel, titanium or Hastelloy C4. A variety of elastomers and mechanical seals are also available.

UV searchlight

Fig 1

Sunnex has published a brochure describing its UV searchlight. ColorLight utilizes (blacklight) technology for quick, cost-effective results in the early stages of oil detection. It illuminates the fluorescent properties inherent to oil, allowing visibility of oil spills through darkness, fog, rain and snow. It features a dual-headed lamp with self-contained halogen and UV lights. The lamp is capable of rotating 360_ in both vertical and horizontal planes. This ensures freedom to direct light at all angles. The halogen lamp has a range of about 13,200 ft in clear weather, and the UV searchlight has a range of about 4,500 ft. ColorLight is IP 66-approved for the heavy seas and can be remotely operated.

Centrifugal pumps

A brochure from Thompson Kelly & Lewis contains detailed specs on a range of Hydro-Titan heavy-duty back pullout pumps for water and process applications. The back pullout feature provides for quick and easy maintenance by allowing good access to all pump components without disturbing the driver or pipework. The pumps offer maximum interchangeability of parts over a range of pump sizes to reduce the number of spares that need to be stocked. The pumps conform to ISO 2858, which affords dimensional interchangeability with other makes of pumps. They can be constructed in a combination of materials with options to meet varying service requirements.

Check valves

A 20-page engineering brochure from Red Valve describes the firm’s Tideflex product line. It provides application information and a full list of installation options. The literature is a good tool for anyone designing, updating or maintaining a stormwater, wastewater or potable water management system.

Dispensers, metering pumps

Providing fluid control solutions for over 40 years, Fluid Metering is offering its 2002 catalog of precision dispensers and metering pumps. The catalog features the IDS 2002 Industrial Dispenser Pump, an ideal solution for industrial process and production applications. The literature also details the CeramPump valveless piston technology, pump capacities, drive specs, pricing and ordering information. A wide selection of pump heads and drives are available to deliver flows from microlitres up to 4 l/min., with pressures up to 100 psig. The standard ceramic and fluorocarbon fluid path provides excellent chemical resistance.

Boiler, pressure vessel code

A two-volume, 1,400-page guide by ASME International addresses all sections of the organization’s boiler, pressure vessel and piping codes. It highlights Sections I through XI of the ASME BPVC and Codes B31.1 and B31.3 for pressure piping. This comprehensive guide covers areas that include rules for certification and accreditation. It also provides numerous examples, explanatory text, graphics, and references and annotated bibliographical notes, which engineers can immediately reference to find acceptable criteria for material requirements.

Mineral law and policy issues

The book, Regulation of Mineral Enterprises: A Global Perspective on Economics, Law and Policy, is available from Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation. Authors John Cordes and Jim Otto provide integrated and analytical source materials that provide a comprehensive assessment of contemporary international mineral law and policy issues. Chapters include such topics as historical perspectives on international mineral law and policy, national mineral policies, national mining laws, bilateral and multilateral agreements, and much more.
