Calgary-based Petro-Canada appointed Norman F. McIntyre its new president. He will be responsible for aligning the newly acquired international assets with the corporation’s strategy and direction. Ron Brenneman continues as CEO.

Control Risks Group appointed Kevin Keable as business development consultant, to market several of its primary security and reporting services to the UK oil and gas industry. These services offer support to companies that are considering expanding their operations in developing countries, and to management and staff working or travelling in parts of the world that pose possible political and security risks. He is responsible for all marketing, media relations and direct sales efforts.

James J. Mulva, currently chairman and CEO of Phillips will become president and CEO of Conoco Phillips. Robert McKee III was appointed executive VP, E&P.

BJ Services announced that Bruce Campbell has been appointed health, safety, environmental (HSE) & quality manager for the UK Well Services Division. Campbell oversees management of all HSE initiatives and related compliance procedures within the UK.

Osca, Inc., named Jerry Borges as international sales VP. A graduate of the University of Missouri in civil engineering, he has 20 years oilfield experience.

Dan Olds joined Ryder Scott as petroleum engineer. He conducts reservoir-engineering evaluations and provides management-advisory consultation in matters involving international oil and gas contracts, investment decision-making, litigation / arbitration and mergers / acquisitions.

Jim Mitchen and Greg Thory joined RS Platou (USA) in Houston as VPs to expand the company’s traditional rig and vessel brokering and related services into the floating production and construction / subsea vessel markets.

Deaths

World Oil’s former contributing editor in Washington, Charles D. Matthews, lost his battle with cancer on Friday, February 22, 2002. He graduated from George Washington University with BA and MA degrees and worked toward a Ph.D. in economics and public policy. Mr. Matthews began his career working directly in research projects for congressional members and committees at the Legislative Reference Service of the Library of Congress. Later, he lobbied on behalf of U.S. investor-owned utility companies as a senior legislative representative. In 1972, he co-founded the National Ocean Industries Association and served as its president for 18 years. He was named deputy chairman of NOIA, a position that he held until retiring in 1993. He then formed Charles D. Matthews & Co. later that year to provide government relations consultancy and advocacy, supplying strategic planning and preparing communications on vital public issues. Charles will be greatly missed by family, friends and the World Oil editorial staff.

Leonard LeBlanc, passed away January 17, 2002. He began his 25-year-career as technology editor of Offshore magazine and was promoted to editor in chief in 1986. WO
