Drilling and Well Completion Technology

Green, lean and clay-free. A synthetic-based fluid has been designed to reduce viscosity in cold temperatures while surpassing the new EPA regulations. Kerr-McGee and HES/Baroid discuss their use of this fluid, which is especially applicable with regard to cuttings in deepwater locations.

Multilateral completion technique saves money, boosts output on North Slope. A case study of a Level 3, multilateral completion at Alaska's Milne Point field will be presented by Baker Oil Tools and BP. The completion saved several hundred thousand dollars while increasing oil production 280%.

Casing drilling successfully applied in southern Wyoming. Relevant details of a 15-well project to investigate this new drilling system's potential are described by Tesco and BP. Reviews will include important lessons learned.

Drilling, Completion And Workover Fluid Tables

arrow

World Oil's popular annual tables. Containing revisions and new product additions from all relevant equipment/service providers, these tables comprise about 25 pages of technical fluid data that drillers and operators need to meet today's demanding drilling environment.

Natural Gas Technology Report

Advanced fracture detection leads to better drilling, greater output. In conjunction with Burlington Resources, Midland, Texas-based Geospectrum discusses the results of a National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) project in the San Juan basin. Findings from the project should lead to increased drilling success and greater gas production in tight reservoirs. The reservoir development firm employed multiple azimuth, 3-D seismic attributes to map the highest natural fracture density, porosity and other favorable reservoir characteristics.

Regional Report

Natural gas opportunities grow in Mexico. Charles Clements, president of Economics and Consulting for the Americas within IHS Group, discusses the possibilities for outside operators to participate in expedited development of Mexico's natural gas resources. A combination of policy changes and growing energy demand within the country will generate a variety of opportunities for firms with specific technical capabilities.

Petroleum Technology Digest

arrow

World Oil's popular, quarterly feature in association with the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council features practical, cost-effective solutions to technical field problems. Several items will discuss recent innovations that are ideally suited for independent operators, both within and outside the U.S.
