John P. McGinnis joined Nuevo Energy Co. as exploration VP, responsible for overseeing all of the firm’s domestic and international exploration activities and scientific information technology program.

Bonnie Koske joined Hickham Industries, Inc., as lab manager. Gregory Jarrabet joined as coating application engineer, while Ron Shaver and Allen Thornton joined as international sales manager and area sales manager, respectively.

Contour Energy Co. elected Kenneth R. Sanders exploration and production senior VP.

Louisiana Gulf Coast Oil Exposition (LAGCOE) named Ron Garber of Apache Corp. co-chairman for LAGCOE ’99, scheduled for Oct. 26–28 at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Dr. Ipo L. Ritsema will succeed Max H. Mulder as the Geo-energy department head for the Netherlands Institute of Applied Geoscience TNO.

Brigham Exploration elected Jeffrey E. Larson exploration VP.

CRP Marine appointed Richard Hepworth engineered products manager.

Marlon McClinton was promoted to VP and general manager of distribution and end-use programs for GRI. Dr. Stephen D. Ban said he would step down as president and CEO by the end of 1999. He will remain in his current capacity until a successor is named.

Ingersoll-Rand elected Charles L. Griffith, Joseph A. Kiah and Gordon A. Mapp VPs.

International geophysicist Jon A. Ferris joined GraviMetrics, Inc., as an exclusive consultant.

Luis Ferreira was promoted to market and production VP for Rio Alto Exploration Ltd. Rick Cones was appointed president and CEO. Murray Nunns was promoted to senior VP, exploration and development. Robert Shaunessy was elected chairman of the board and stepped down from the position of executive VP. As chairman, he will remain actively involved in the ongoing operations of the firm.

Jim Angelillo became strategic relations VP for the new company resulting from the merger between Fakespace Systems and Pyramid Systems Inc. Jim Hile became president of worldwide sales, and Mark Bolas is a member of the new company’s board of directors.

Charlie Bowerman, executive VP and a member of Phillips Petroleum’s board of directors, will retire on Dec. 1, after 38 years of service.

Deaths

Constantine S. "Dino" Nicandros, retired president and CEO of Conoco Inc. passed away August 3, in Houston, Texas. He joined Conoco in 1957 as a research associate in the planning department, later becoming a VP in New York in 1972 and vice president for refining, marketing and supply and transportation in the Eastern Hemisphere Petroleum Division. He headed Conoco from 1987 through 1995, and served as chairman of the board until retiring in March 1996, and was vice chairman of Conoco’s parent company E. I. DuPont de Nemours and Co. from 1991 until his retirement. Nicandros was an honorary director of the American Petroleum Institute and was a director from 1983 to 1996, serving twice on its management committee and as public policy committee chairman. He was the 1996 recipient of API’s Gold Medal for distinguished achievement and was a member of the National Petroleum Council.

Carnes Wesley Weaver died on August 2. After receiving his petroleum engineering degree from University of Texas, he worked for Texaco for five years, then joined John Mecom for five years before starting Weaver Drilling and continuing as an independent oilman.
