World Oil Awards Winners Announced

Eleven Winning Companies Receive Top Honors at Global Petroleum Event

HOUSTON, TEXAS – 16 October 2009 - World Oil® magazine announced the eleven winners of the 2009 World Oil Awards at the eighth annual black-tie gala dinner last night in Houston, Texas. The event, attended by close to 300 industry leaders, benefited two universities that offer programs leading to careers in the petroleum industry.

Mr. John Murray of FloaTEC, LLC won the Innovative Thinkers Award for his forward thinking and his involvement in the future of the industry. Cameron was recognized in the Best Completion Technology award for their CAMLAN Broadband Control System which provides for the first time a local area network between the surface and subsea equipment. Marathon Oil Company was institutional in their award for Best Data Management & Application Solution Award for Marathon’s Information and Data Assurance Solution (“MIDAS Program”) which created a framework in which a well is created one time, and then propagated to other enterprise applications or databases. Halliburton took home the Best Drilling Technology Award for the FreePoint Tool a game changing technology in the determination of the free point / stuck point in support of drilling and well abandonment operations recovery. Schlumberger was awarded the Best Production Technology Award for making a breakthrough in pumping well technology by boosting the capacity for ESPs to handle gas to as much as 75% GVF with their new Poseidon Advanced Gas Handler. Baker Hughes was recognized as the winner of the Best Well Intervention Award for the SENTIO Downhole Data Acquisition Tool based on drilling optimization technology.

6. Health Safety Environment/ Sustainable Development Award: Real-Time Solutions for Remotely Operating Offshore Rigs, Halliburton
7. Innovative Thinkers Award: Mr. John Murray, FloaTEC, LLC
8. New Horizons Idea Award: CameronDC All-Electric System for the K5F Field Installation, Cameron
9. Best Production Technology Award: Poseidon Advanced Gas Handler, Schlumberger
10. Best Visualization & Collaboration Award: StimMap Live, Schlumberger
11. Best Well Intervention Award: SENTIO Downhole Data Acquisition Tool, Baker Hughes

The 2009 World Oil Awards benefited the University of Houston and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. This program garnered hundreds of submissions from points around the globe. A third-party Advisory Board, comprised of nine senior industry executives and academics and The Next Generation Committee, comprised of 14 up-and-coming leaders in the petroleum industry, all of which judged the short list of nominees.
