Oman invites bids for five onshore, offshore blocks

MUSCAT, Oman -- Oman has invited explorers to bid for five blocks in its upcoming licensing round.

The Sultanate’s Ministry of Oil and Gas (MOG) has opened up two offshore blocks -- 18 and 59 -- and three onshore blocks -- 43A, 54 and 58 – for bids.

Block 18, which has a water depth ranging from 30 to 3,000 m, lies in the north Sohar basin and covers 21,140 sq km. While Block 59, which lies off the east cost of Central Oman, covers an area of 40,488 sq km.

Onshore, Block 54, which covers 5,632 sq km, is located near Petroleum Development Oman’s Block 6 oilfields, Oxy’s Block 53 Mukhaizna field and blocks 3 and 4.

Block 43A, which MOG describes as under explored,  lies in the north of Oman’s mountains and covers 6,879 sq km. And Block 58, which covers 2,277 sq km, is situated on the southern edge of the Western Flank between the South Oman Salt basin and the Rub Al Khali basin.

The deadline for the submission of sealed bids is October 31.
