Intertek opens Eagle Ford shale lab

ELMENDORF, Texas -- Intertek has reported the opening of a new laboratory in Elmendorf, Texas, to address the company's significant market opportunity in the emerging Eagle Ford shale market and to support the industry’s rapidly growing customer base in this region.

The new purpose-built 2,400 sq ft laboratory is well placed, 13 mi south of San Antonio in the heart of the Eagle Ford, to provide quality control and related technical services to shale oil and gas clients. Specific testing capabilities at the new lab include hydrogen sulfide (H2S), reid vapor pressure (RVP), detailed hydrocarbon analysis (DHA) and more.

"With the Eagle Ford Shale (EFS) being a chief shale development for North America and ranking as one of the largest oil and gas developments in the world based on capital invested, the growth of Intertek and the new opening of this laboratory represents a natural progression and important investment for us and our customers,” said James Ignatovich, MD, Intertek.

"We continue to see great opportunity in shale and look forward to bringing in new industry experts and laboratory talent who will drive the Intertek vision across this region to meet market needs.”

The new facility complements Intertek’s existing global network of oil and gas laboratories and is the first shale oil and gas designated lab. Advanced analytical instrumentation and technical expertise allows for industry specific testing such as analysis of crude oil offered for transportation, as recently issued by the Department of Transportation (DOT), and GPA gas analysis.
