Schlumberger awards scholarships to AAPG’s 2013 outstanding student chapters                                   

PITTSBURGH -- Schlumberger announced today its contribution of five scholarships to the American Association of Petroleum Geologists’ (AAPG) Outstanding Student Chapter Awards. Two universities were selected as the 2013 chapter winners, and four additional universities were awarded honorable mention student chapter scholarships.

Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo., was the top award recipient among U.S.-based chapters, and the Universitas Indonesia, in Jakarta, was honored as the outstanding international chapter. Honorable mentions were awarded to two universities in the U.S.: the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Wichita State University in Wichita, Kan. Additional honorable mentions were awarded to the Universitas Sriwijaya, in Palembang, Indonesia, and Eotvos Lorand University, in Budapest, Hungary.

Schlumberger has sponsored the AAPG Outstanding Student Chapter Awards scholarships for 16 years.

Currently, AAPG has 277 chapters worldwide. Student chapter requirements for selection of awards are: maintenance of student AAPG memberships, active AAPG faculty sponsor, participation in the Geosciences Institute’s Earth Science Week or other scientific outreach programs, field trips, meetings and special community events, and the use of social media to promote their chapter.
