“We have experienced tremendous growth over the past seven years, and we expect vigorous growth to continue for the foreseeable future,” said BHP Billiton Petroleum Chief Executive J. Michael Yeager. “Since making the strategic the decision to establish headquarters for BHP Billiton Petroleum in Houston in 2006, our workforce has expanded from 350 to 1,800 employees.  Our production has expanded from 315,000 bopd to 660,000 bopd, with expectations of 1 million bopd in five years.”

The new office tower will directly connect to BHP Billiton Petroleum’s current headquarters building at 1360 Post Oak Boulevard, creating a new two-tower campus. A glass skybridge will provide easy access for all employees to offices and facilities in both buildings.

Yeager said offices for employees scattered in five buildings in Houston and the former Petrohawk headquarters in Tulsa will be consolidated in the twin towers in Houston. Approximately 50-60 employees in Tulsa will be moved to Houston and a similar number will be relocated to an operations center in Arkansas. The new office facilities will provide capacity to expand the workforce to about 3,000 employees over the next five years, according to Yeager.

In the U.S., BHP Billiton Petroleum is active in the Gulf of Mexico and several onshore conventional and shale plays, including the Eagle Ford, Permian, Haynesville and Fayetteville. From its Houston headquarters, the company will manage exploration, drilling and production activities in seven countries.
