Shell drilling in Arctic delayed by ice

BY NEENA RAI

LONDON -- Shell has been forced to halt its drilling in the Arctic after only one day, reports newspaper The Independent, citing encroaching sea ice on a drillship in the Chuckchi Sea.

The newspaper adds that the multinational oil and gas company won a permit on a temporary basis only days ago to operate its drilling rig off Alaska. The company was unavailable for immediate comment.
