BP: Deepwater Horizon well intact, survey shows

HOUSTON -- BP said that an underwater survey showed that the well that unleashed the Deepwater Horizon oil spill was intact.

The survey took place as the company and United States authorities sought to spot the source of a surface sheen seen near the area. BP and offshore contractor Transocean, the owner of the doomed Deepwater Horizon rig that exploded and sank in April 2010, inspected the well, the rig's wreckage, and the sea floor surrounding it and confirmed it wasn't leaking. The company said that while no evidence of oil or gas leakage was found, a white, cloudy substance appeared to emanate from several places on the overturned rig. Samples were gathered, the company said. The survey, conducted using submarine ROVs, lasted four days.
