BP opens Utica operations center in Ohio

NORTH JACKSON, Ohio -- BP America employees have begun moving into the company’s new Utica Operations Center, located in a 43,000 sq-ft office/warehouse complex in the Youngstown Commerce Park, with plans to begin drilling operations as early as next month.

“We've been working toward this since March of this year when we initially signed the agreement to lease 84,000 acres in Trumbull County for oil and gas production,” said Joe Uppercue, Operations Manager for BP in Ohio. “Now that we have a place we can officially call home, we’re ready to move toward the start up of operations.  We anticipate drilling test wells starting in late January.”

“Opening this facility and starting operations is indicative not only of BP’s commitment to creating jobs that will help boost the Ohio economy, but also of our commitment to helping secure the country’s energy future,” he said. The facility will be used by BP employees and select contractors involved in its drilling and producing operations.

The former FedEx distribution center, with 5,000 sq ft of office space and 38,000 sq ft of warehouse and storage space, was selected for its large size, access to interstate highways and ability to be expanded, if needed, Uppercue said.

Since announcing its agreement to lease acreage in Trumbull County, Ohio, earlier this year, BP has signed on about 100,000 acres in leases and is progressing plans to develop oil and gas production in the Utica and Pt. Pleasant shale formations.
