Iranian Offshore Oil Co. plans to drill 17 wells in Persian Gulf

TEHERAN -- The exploration manager at Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) says 17 wells will be drilled in Persian Gulf waters with the aim of identifying new hydrocarbon reserves.

Shana Mansour Ghaibihayat said IOOC had two sets of drilling plans in the agenda  to appraise the Persian Gulf oil and gas fields. He said that drilling would be carried out not only in existing operational fields but also in those fields where development had not yet been started.

According to Gharibihayat, the company has signed a head of agreements (HOA) with Petro Iran Company for drilling 12 wells, while a private company, whose name was not disclosed, will be in charge of drilling another 5 wells.

“Before starting drilling, we have gathered a lot of information on hydrocarbon reserves in the Persian Gulf through conducting of 3D seismic operations, and our drilling program is based on that information,”  the IOOC official noted.

He also said that drilling operations would continue for 3 to 4 years.
