Centek begins U.S. manufacturing

OKLAHOMA CITY — Centek Group, a European centralizer manufacturer, has opened a U.S. manufacturing subsidiary based in Oklahoma City, Okla. The 80,000-sq-ft plant is fully self-sufficient in all aspects of centralizer manufacture with its own heat treatment and laser cutting equipment. Initially, manufacturing will concentrate on the Centek S2 bow-spring centralizer, which is made from a single piece of steel, maximizes standoff, flexibility and robustness.

Key Centek personnel are in place, and the plant is expected to employ around 50 persons in the first year and to grow from that point. The Oklahoma factory will be a mirror image of the highly successful UK plant and will supply the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Centek in the USA is a registered U.S. company and will be called Centek Inc. API and ISO certification of the plant is underway and the first centralizers were produced in July.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Centek as for the first time we will be manufacturing centralizers in America as Centek Inc. and distributing throughout North America,” said Cliff Berry, Global Business Development Manager, Centek Group. “While Centek has had a U.S. distribution centre in Houston since 2010, a U.S. manufacturing base allows us to open up new markets and focus on those areas where we have experience. It gives us the opportunity to increase sales in the Gulf region and also in Mexico and Canada.”

Despite the high profile of the Gulf of Mexico the great majority of U.S. oil production is land-based and Centek Inc. will be promoting a mix of its most commonly requested units. Centek has wide experience of the problems of getting to bottom and shale issues, and the Centek S2 has been effective dealing with these. The S2 centralizer is currently being used successfully in US shale plays such as the Marcellus, Eagle Ford, Bakken, Utica, Woodford, Barnett and others.
