V&M Star new Youngstown mill produces first pipe

Youngstown, Ohio -- V&M Star announced it successfully produced its first pipe at its new state-of-the-art mill in Youngstown, Ohio.

The company reports that the new mill will support the long-term development of shale exploitation in the U.S., which is driving demand for small diameter OCTG tubes and connections. The mill line of products also includes Line Pipe, Green Pipe for drill pipe, and Coupling Stock.

Following the commissioning of the different equipment of the rolling mill, the first continuous production was achieved on October 26, on schedule for first sales to occur in the beginning of 2013. With an initial production capacity of 350,000 tons of seamless pipes per year, the new offer will complement the range produced by V&M in North America.

The pipe produced in the new Youngstown mill will be threaded with API, semi premium and the latest-generation VAM premium connections dedicated to exploitation in demanding conditions.

V&M Star is a joint venture between Vallourec Group, headquartered in France, and Sumitomo Corporation Group, headquartered in Japan.
