Surface modification treatment increases oil recovery

Tendeka has introduced a new surface modification treatment, capable of increasing oil recovery in unconventional shale plays. ShaleModifier is an oil-based polymer treatment that covalently bonds to the rock surface, allowing enhanced oil flowback from the nanonetwork. It can be pumped as part of the initial completion, ahead of the hydraulic fracture, or as a workover squeezed into the formation. Performance can be readily evaluated using reservoir analogues that replicate the inherent geometry of the shale in combination with formation water and oil. According to the company, testing of the treatment has demonstrated that it can increase the volume of oil recovered during flowback by up to 250%, as well as increase the average producing flowrate by 194%, compared to a control.

Gangway system allows safe, efficient transfer of people and cargo

Ampelmann is developing the E5000, a new system capable of transferring cargo and personnel up to 5,000 kg offshore. According to the company, the new E5000 system was built on the success of Ampelmann’s E1000. The new design reportedly will enable safe offshore access and extend the weather window of operations. The switch between people and cargo mode takes less than a minute, with a push of a button. According to the company, this plug-and-play system turns any vessel into an all-round offshore tool and, as a result, clients benefit from shorter campaign durations, increased logistical efficiency and a broader scope of work. The gangway system, which is expected to be operational in third-quarter 2020, will be accompanied by Ampelmann’s full-service package, which includes certified operators, project preparation and execution, maintenance services and 24/7 support from the Operations Control Center.

Inline corrosion application provides real-time interpretation, analysis of data

Emerson has released The Plantweb Insight Inline Corrosion application, providing the oil and gas industry with real-time interpretation and analysis of critical data to help prioritize maintenance and make informed integrity decisions. The application delivers field data from the Roxar wireless corrosion transmitters, providing valuable insight into instrument health and process corrosivity. It offers alerts on preset thresholds for severe corrosivity, probe lifespan for electric resistance probes, low battery levels and more, according to the company. Additionally, its easy-to-read dashboard displays an intuitive heatmap, with intelligence on corrosivity of fluid levels based on the NACE standard. The IIoT-based application reportedly integrates into existing wireless infrastructures and delivers field data as frequently as once every 15 min. Because it allows personnel to make fewer manual inspection in the field, the application minimizes exposure to hazardous areas.

3D model library helps optimize layout for sensing systems

NewTek Sensor Solutions has introduced an online 3D model library of its LVDT Position Sensors. The 3D models, which are offered in .stp (STEP) and .igs (IGES) formats for near-universal acceptance in CAD programs, help OEMS and end-users visualize space requirements for position sensors to optimize layouts for different sensing systems. They also help engineers choose the right LVDT as a replacement for existing sensors. The company offers 3D models for a range of its Position Sensors, including: miniature AC-operated LVDTs; high-temperature (200°C) AC-LVDT; hermetically-sealed right-angle AC-LVDT; and spring-loaded AC-operated LVDTs.
