Solution fuels drilling rigs, production operations from field gas

TRF Energy Solutions has created a process to use field gas for fuel, a key solution as the Obama administration aims to reduce methane emissions in the oil and gas sector.  Dehydration and gas processing equipment are used to capture, and use, existing field gas. TRF Energy has converted over 80 dual-fuel drilling rigs and pressure pumping spreads, and operates in major shale plays across the U.S. Customers include Shell, Chesapeake and Weatherford.

Visualization software expands, heightens cloud-based intelligence

PetroDE has released an update of its software, version 5.0, that expands the number of basemap layers available to users, to nine. Rather than the single Google Earth layer used in earlier versions, the software’s fifth version allows users to choose the basemap that best allows them to visualize their data. Esri World Topography becomes the default basemap, but users may also select Esri USA Topography, Esri World Imagery, two Open Data Commons maps, including OpenStreetMap, and three Google Maps options. The software then adds data from providers, such as IHS and Drillinginfo, state and federal agencies, and client-proprietary systems.

Device transfers offshore personnel safely, at higher capacity

Reflex Marine has introduced the FROG-XT marine personnel transfer device, designed to offer operators increased performance and safety. The FROG-XT is the newest product in the FROG range, and can include four-, six- or 10-person versions. The average passenger weight capability also has been increased. The first FROG-XT was sold to Total E&P in Nigeria, to be used on the newly developed Odudu field.

Water-jetting unit delivers higher flows with a smaller pump

Hughes Pumps has developed an improved water-jetting unit, for corrosion prevention maintenance on offshore structures, that reduces routine maintenance and eliminates the need for on-site compressed air. The water-jetting system is supplied with a simple dump gun, and a self-rotating surface preparation nozzle, suitable for the very low flowrate required. The system is comprised of an Ultrabar 10 EC UHP water-jetting unit, with a performance of 2.2 gpm at 36,000 psi. A 60-hp, electric motor and starter panel are stored in a 71-in. by 39-in. by 59-in., crash-frame mount, weighing 2,420 lb. The unit was used recently on the Stena Spey (pictured), a self-propelled, semi-submersible drilling rig based in Aberdeen. The unit was used to strip corrosion and failed coatings from the rig.
