Drydocks World, a ship and offshore repair, conversion and newbuild company, successfully launched the Self-Elevating Platform L210 from its dedicated rig building facility in Graha, Indonesia. The platform is being built at a contract value of $24.6 million. The MSC SEA-3250-type platform is 75.9 m long, 40 m wide and 6 m deep. The vessel is being built for Self Elevating Platforms N.V. Remaining to be installed are four 87.7-m tubular legs and a 1,000-tonne crane.

DNV has acquired Synergi Solutions, enlarging its present software portfolio extensively and gaining 30 new employees. DNV, a provider of asset integrity software for the energy and maritime industries, will extend its portfolio to include risk-based software for operational risk management. The quality, health, safety and environment (QHSE) sector is growing increasingly complex, and recognized systems for managing these risks are vital. Existing Synergi customers will benefit from DNV’s global presence and close relationship with companies in the energy and maritime industries. Based in Stavanger, Norway, Synergi Solutions’ software is available in 20 languages and used in 150 countries by 500,000 users.

FMC Technologies signed an agreement with Statoil for the manufacture and supply of subsea workover adapters. The award has a value of about $43 million in revenue to FMC. The scope of supply includes eight workover adapters for horizontal subsea production trees and five adapters for drill pipe landing strings, as well as topside controls. The equipment will be manufactured at FMC’s facility in Kongsberg, Norway. Deliveries will commence in second-quarter 2012.

Aker Solutions is strengthening its capacity in the solids control and drilling waste management services market by establishing a new entity to offer a full range of services to the drilling market. The company, named Step Oiltools, is a joint venture between Aker’s wholly owned subsidiary Step Offshore and drilling waste management specialist Chris Pianca, who brings over 40 years of experience to the venture.

Atlas Copco has acquired Grupos Electrógenos (Gesan), a manufacturer of diesel and gasoline generators sold through a global distributor network. Gesan, which is privately owned, employs about 160 people and is based in Zaragoza, Spain, where it has a production and assembly facility. Its generators range in sizes up to nearly twice as large as Atlas Copco’s current offering. Atlas Copco will keep the Gesan brand, in line with its brand portfolio strategy.

Life Cycle Engineering’s Reliability Consulting Group is opening an office in Houston. LCE has served oil and gas customers since 1979. The new location will enable the company to more closely partner with its Texas-based clientele, and will also serve as a local adult learning center for its Life Cycle Institute.

Shell has signed agreements with the governments of Alberta and Canada to secure $865 million in funding for its Quest Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project. The Quest project will capture and permanently store underground more than 1 million tonnes of CO2 per year from Shell’s Scotford upgrader near Edmonton, Alberta, which processes heavy oil from the Athabasca oil sands.
