New PDC drill bit design
Baker Hughes has introduced the Hughes Christensen Quantec Force line of polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) bits. The bits feature newly engineered stabilization technology and next-generation cutters to deliver higher penetration rates and increased footage in a wide range of drilling environments. Quantec Force has demonstrated high stability by employing a new bit-dynamics model to optimize the force distribution experienced while the bit is in service. This improvement reduces the occurrence of highly destructive bit whirl, keeping the drilling process efficient and the cutting structure intact for faster and longer runs. The new PDC bit line also uses newly engineered and highly wear-resistant cutters. The bits are designed for all applications, including hard, abrasive formations as well as interbedded shales and sands. The cutters on the bit can be changed out depending on the formation requirements.
Sealless magnetic-drive pumps The new Moyno Mag Drive 500 Series pumps feature a sealless magnetic-drive design that provides zero leakage. The pumps can handle toxic, aggressive, caustic or flammable and explosive fluids. This progressing-cavity pump features: no mechanical seals, eliminating repairs; pulsation-free, low-shear pumping action to maintain product integrity; no vapor locking when handling gaseous, volatile liquids; four different models for application versatility, with flowrates from 0.1 to 900 gal/hr. Construction materials include composite housings and internals. Stator materials include Nitrile or EPDM with optional FPM stators and titanium rotors. Skid-mounted, turnkey systems are available. Typical applications include sodium hypochlorite, ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, ferric chloride, aluminum chloride and other caustic fluids.
High-efficiency MIG wires
ESAB Welding & Cutting Products’ AristoRod MIG welding wires feature a uniquely engineered surface for consistent trouble-free feeding, low contact tip wear, excellent arc-start properties, extremely low spatter and an exceptionally stable arc. AristoRod is now available in three package sizes for different applications: a 40-lb spool, a 550-lb Marathon Pac and a 900-lb Marathon Pac with endless-drum technology that provides a continuous supply of welding wire to high-production weld cells without halting production to change out empty packages. All packages are available with 0.035-, 0.045- and 0.052-in.-diameter wires. The 40-lb spools offer a balance of productivity, ease of handling and portability. The spools create a sturdy package that mounts to the feeder’s spindle without adapters. Precision winding reduces tangles. All-steel construction allows the spool to be recycled along with steel scrap, unlike traditional fiber and plastic spools. For high-volume and automated welding applications, Marathon Pac uses a special coiling technique that ensures that wire pays out straight, without cast and helix that can cause arc wander. The automatic unwind process eliminates the need for separate decoiling equipment. The 900-lb Endless Marathon Pac features a unique design that allows the Pac to be used as a single drum or allows a second drum to be seamlessly connected, providing a continuous supply of welding wire to high-production weld cells.
Lugless closures
R&M Energy Systems offers the Yale SafeGuard Figure 500 lugless closure for sealing of pipelines and vessels. The closure utilizes a threaded closure cap with O-ring pressure seal design. The lugless feature of the closure prevents in-field safety risks associated with hammering on the closure cap lugs as well as the potential for damage to the closure that could hinder its sealing capability and shorten its service life. It can be easily operated with a standard 24-in. or 36-in. pipe wrench.
Multipurpose drill floor machine The JIM 20 Multi Purpose Roughneck, from Norway-based TT Sense, serves four purposes. It is a regular roughneck, casing roughneck, mud bucket and dope robot, all operated by one easy-to-use control system, resulting in significant safety improvements on the drill floor. The machine can handle tubing ranging from small drill pipe all the way up to 20-in. casing. Available torque is 185,000 ft-lb, and it can support a 15-ton stand.
Programmable encoder
BEI Industrial Encoders has introduced the Omnicoder, an incremental encoder that allows users to easily program the resolution anywhere between 1 and 10,000 counts per turn. Packaged in BEI’s Model H25 encoder, the Omnicoder allows for virtually unlimited resolution variations, and it can be reprogramed as needed to change the resolution. The device programs over its existing M18 connector. Using an M18-to-USB programing cable, it is plugged directly into a PC. The programing software automatically detects the Omnicoder, then the user enters the desired resolution. Equipment can have many encoders with various resolutions providing feedback to the control system. Omnicoder units can be kept on the shelf and programed as needed.
Oxygen regulators with explosion control
All oxygen regulators carry an inherent danger that the oxygen could spontaneously ignite if it encounters certain impurities, such as hydrocarbons, within the regulator. ESAB manufactures the Purox and Ox-weld brands of oxygen regulators with built-in explosion protection. The regulators’ design suppresses internal forces from a cylinder explosion within the cylinder, thereby minimizing the risk of personal injury. These regulators are machined from solid-brass bar stock to ensure years of performance with minimum maintenance.
